One of the translucent stones that polished up in the last batch that went through 40 days in 4 cycles in the Lortone 3A tumbler
These were my final outcomes for the project "Translucent", where I designed a surface pattern in four different colour ways. After many developments and experiments, I settled on this use of laser printed acetate and hot glue beads. The print had come from my experimentations of brusho powder and water droplets on a variety of surfaces including tissue paper and fabrics of differing thicknesses and fibres. The glue drops had derived from the rain drops and condensation droplets I had photographed as part of my initial research into the project "Translucent". I feel this piece is successful in that itself is a final outcome and that it could also be developed further into printed textile repeat patterns.

Working on my sister's birthday present! I must say I am quite proud of the mouth, I was afraid I was going to botch her up!

Autumn leaf cane on scrap clay background (I wouldn't normally use that colour combination!). I used extremely thin cane slices, baked at Kato temp and dunked in ice water. Worked much better. The mint-and-chocolate pair at the back were me once again meaning to mix scrap clay together, but I ended up with a twisty cane that had a lovely cross-section, so I made beads with it instead...
To die -- takes just a little while --
They say it doesn't hurt --
It's only fainter -- by degrees --
And then -- it's out of sight --
A darker Ribbon -- for a Day --
A Crape upon the Hat --
And then the pretty sunshine comes --
And helps us to forget --
The absent -- mystic -- creature --
That but for love of us --
Had gone to sleep -- that soundest time --
Without the weariness -- emily dikenson

Taken in Buyeo, South Korea. Used a tripod and remote shutter release for extra sharpness ;)
Seoul Photo Club: How can I frame photos of leaves to make it interesting? Does this sort of image work or have I completely missed it?
Having not attempted macro photography in a while, and the recent sunny weather, budding flowers and mini beasts everywhere motivated me to try again. Previously, I'd been dissapointed by a lack of magnification, though didn't think my Tokina 100mm lens was too blame.
After some research and experimentation, I realised that I could focus on subjects way closer than I'd assumed possible but not by using the focus ring. It's not accurate enough when the subject is moving, and neither is my focusing rail. However, I understood that rocking the camera forwards and backwards whilst taking more shots might provide the sharp focus I was after.
This image is the result of this technique taken from my first practice session in our garden. I spent some time shooting this African Impatiens trying focus on the petals and reproductive parts. In the end I chose this as my favoured image. Whilst both sharp and soft, I liked how the translucent colour enhances the photo's abstract nature.
This leaf is transparent. Is this dew drop on the front or on the back of the leaf?
Actually the dew drop is on the back of the leaf but it can be clearly seen from the leaf front because this leaf is translucent.
