Translucent Solar Filament and an Emerging Active Region on August 30, 2012

I waited for the filament to become fully visible from behind the south eastern limb and as a bonus there appeared a new smoldering active region also. I expected to capture the filament in a stronger 3D look, but this time it was thinner and nicely transparent. The image was inverted to strengthen the 3D feel. This see-through filament was imaged on August 30, 2012 at 08:12 UT. I experimented with the Ken Burns (Pan and Zoom) effect in an attempt to highlight the details. The image was captured at 2220 mm FL, using a SW150 refractor, rear H-alpha etalon filter, internal 110 mm ERF filter, Coronado BF10, Basler acA1300-30gm camera.

Iceplant close up, with the sun shining through. Its brilliant colors are dazzling when looked at up close. Found in many places along the coast of the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur.

There were thousands of these berries all over the hedge rows lining the fields we were walking through.
