I used to be "afraid" of using the ISO 3200 on my Nikon D90, but it appears it can still get some nice results.

Backlit by the afternoon sun, you can almost see through this prickly pear pad.

The coloring on these birds is remarkable. The other two swallows common in these parts (tree and violet-green) are largely white underneath. These have red breasts and orange bellies -- not to mention those brilliant translucent blue backs.

This -- taken about two weeks ago -- is the first in a batch of photos I'm going to try to get through this week. I'm sure there are at least ten more bird species that I've photographed in the last few months; I just never got around to taking them off the memory card. I'm hoping my bird photo list for the year so far will be somewhere between 75 and 80 when I'm done -- much higher than I expected when I started in January.
