Explored!

This soapstone water-dropper is a small device used in East Asian calligraphy as a container designed to hold a small amount of water. In order to make ink a few drops of water are dropped onto the surface of an inkstone.

I didn't see what I believe is this translucent butterfly, feeding on the stamen of this Trillium plant, but the lens did! I took this in our local Richfield County Park, at April's close, April 30.

Glass ashtray being hit by yellow and blue light from the sides (used cellphone flashligths and color gels) and the bounced light from a glitter-covered table ornament from behind. Macro mondays - translucent.

Sam Smith - Fire On Fire (From "Watership Down")

Fire on fire

But let's not let them ruin our beautiful rhythms

because when you talk to me,

and you tell me that you love me, and you look into my eyes.

You are perfection, my only direction.

It's fire on fire, ......

Fuoco in fiamme

È fuoco in fiamme, ...

Heliconia chartacea 'Sexy Pink' is a striking hanging heliconia with a flower that gets as much as 6 feet long! A large plant, about 8-10 feet tall, Sexy Pink has thin graceful attractive bright pink to white hanging bracts tinged with white sepels, and the rachis is typically red. This moderately sized species is a beautiful plant with its waxy gray-green leaves and stems that's native to Guyana and northern South America.

Hey! This hit #190 for interestingness (or so it's telling me on 5/17.)

Please don't post awards or gifs in the comments. I appreciate more constructive criticism comments that create a narrative that explores the image and ideas.

Thank you all for the likes and/or commenting on my work.

Did you know...your skin is translucent in infrared light? Not a corpse actually, but it sure has that appearance....

Thanks for all visits, favs and comments. HMM !

Up close look at a slice of a translucent stalactite or possibly a stalagmite, hard to tell from the slice. For the Macro Mondays Group, Challenge: translucent.

España - Cantabria - Rionansa - Celis - Cueva El Soplao

ENGLISH:

El Soplao is a cave located in the municipalities of Rionansa, Valdáliga and Herrerías in Cantabria, Spain. It is considered unique for the quality and quantity of geological formations (speleothems) in its 17 miles length, 6 of which are open to the public. In it are formations such as helíctites (eccentric stalactites defying gravity) and curtains (draperies, or sheets of calcite, sometimes translucent, hanging from the ceiling). Its formation dates back to the Mesozoic, in particular the Cretaceous period 240 million years ago. The entrance is at 540 metres in the Sierra Soplao Arnero.

The cave was accidentally discovered during drilling for mining, subsequently being exploited for the extraction of minerals. During its operation, many local families were supported by the income they got from the mining, combined with farming livestock. After decades of neglect, speleology, and in particular the Cantabria University Speleology Club since 1975, have discovered its true geological value.

On July 1, 2005 the Government of Cantabria opened it to the public and publicised it internationally, after development for tourism and protection rules prohibiting any further activity by the discoverering club. Research goes on, resulting in the study of amber deposits, the recognition of underground stromatolites formed by manganese-oxidising bacteria, and a new mineral form, zaccagnaite-3R.

El Soplao is just one of at least 6,500 caves in Cantabria.

ESPAÑOL:

www.elsoplao.es/es

I've viewed through my kaleidoscope at my Macromondays screen for #macromondays 'translucent' theme (12-Oct-2020).

Still working through lots of old photos. I love these pink ladies.

Picture the World through reflections of water, glycerin, and Joy (the dishwashing soap also).
