This is one image in a series I'm shooting on parking decks ... shapes and forms, light and shadow play, mood and atmosphere. Some images are minimalist; others representational; still others abstract. To see more in the series click Parking Deck Series
Temps dipped below freezing last night, causing the bird bath to freeze over with translucent ice. It made this interesting, almost bird-head like ice formation. It reminds me of a Heron's head. The formation is about 4cm or just over one and a half inches long.
Love that poppies are so paper thin that the sunlight sparkles right through them. Today was a sparkly blue sky full of summer goodness. Thanks for such a fun day Shereen!

I cropped the heck out of this shot to highlight the fascinating wing translucency.

Here is another butterfly of the beautiful Papiliorama (Kerzers, Switzerland). I am particularly happy to have found this one which is not that easy to see because it's transparent and tiny. However, this perticular specimen was kind enough to stay at the same place for about 20 minutes, so it was possible to come back again and again to get different lights (even if, in the end, I decided to process the first shot).
As far as I know, it is a "greta oto".

Lighting SB28 shot through a 42" translucent reflector held at head height by an assistant about 2m camera right at right angles to the wall. Fired by PIIs. Balanced with ambient to give the slightest amount of fill and add the catch lights.
Not many orange poppies in the garden this year but did find a few...thought I would change up the look this time.
The first few blossom flowers were out on a Winter Flowering Cherry Tree on Hartham Common in Hertford today :-) Backlit and covered with water droplets they looked lovely!
