The Silverton Tramway was a 56 Km (35 mile) long 3 ft 6 in (1,067 mm) narrow gauge railway running from Cockburn on the South Australian state border to Broken Hill in New South Wales. Operating between 1888 and 1970 it served the mines of Broken Hill, and formed the link between the standard gauge New South Wales Government Railways and the narrow gauge South Australian Railways. The line was owned and operated by the Silverton Tramway Company.
This long abandoned section of track and station survives in the scrub not far from Silverton, a relic waiting for nature to reclaim it, when it could and should be preserved for its historic and heritage value.
The location is approximate, I can find this site with Google maps, but Nokia maps are not in the same league.
August 2017 update : - I revisited this site recently and was disappointed to see vandals have been active here. Some fool has attached something (no doubt a vehicle) to the left side rail and pulled it out of alignment. The time to preserve this site is now, before it falls victim to mindless drongos.
The first section of the tramway was opened in 1973 and was further extended to cover a 1.5 mile route at Beamish Museum of the North

The crossing of Via XX Settembre and Via Garibaldi in Turin in 1977. Both are narrow streets, with only room for single-track curves at the time. Coming from Via Garibaldi route 6 took the right curve and route 3 the left. Trams making the right turn had to cross over to the left track and after the bend back to the right track.
The old Turin stock with its pre-war trucks and hissing trolley wheel was rather noisy, and in these narrow streets with high facades their sounds on the pointwork reached heavy metal level.
At present, trams are only running in this street and on single track. In the opposite direction they use a parallel street

A fascinating piece of Victorian engineering and well worth a visit.

One of Pioche's historic landmarks, the tramway operated in the 1920's to 1930's transporting ore from the mines on Treasure Hill to the Godbe mill. The tramway was mostly gravity powered and was assisted by a 5HP motor. The weight of the full ore cars helped pull the empty ore cars back to the loading bin.
