The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, locally known as the "Toy Train", is a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge railway that runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling (India). It is still operated by vintage British-built B Class steam locomotives. Operations between Siliguri and Kurseong have been temporarily suspended since 2010 following a Landslide at Tindharia (view photos of the landslide).
For more info about the DHR steam locomotives, read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DHR_778_(locomotive) and www.irfca.org/docs/locolists/dhr-locos-full.html.

On April 11, 2008 Dad found Knoxville & Holston River GP9 2391 sitting at Gee Creek, TN with three restored passenger cars. The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum leases this unit - which was built as L&N 511 - for use on their "Hook & Eye" line tourist train to Copperhill, TN.
On this day Dad found 2391 sitting with one car from the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, GA, one lettered TVRM and one in L&N blue and lettered for L&N.
Dad talked to a TVRM employee working to get this train ready for the upcoming weekend and the guy told Dad that TVRM will be letting this unit go back to KXHR soon because of the expense. TVRM has another Geep of their own under restoration that will join TVRM (NC&StL) 710 on this run and the new unit will be painted in Southern Railway colors. The guy didn't know if it was a hi-nose geep (we can hope!) or if it would be green or black (I hope green!).

On March 5 I had passed through Helena, MT and saw MRL 290 on a westbound freight. I shot a bad shot, but I was afraid I'd not see that unit again. When I posted the shot later that night I lamented the fact that I wished I could get a better shot.
On March 7, 2008 traffic was moving again after the derailment on the 5th and I was taking it all in. I heard on the scanner that an eastbound unit grain train was going to set out a helper at Livingston before leaving town. Much to my surprise, it was MRL 290, and they sat her out right in front of me!

Ever since the 1970s it wasn't unusual to see Southern Pacific power on the L&N in the mountains of East Tennessee. Even after UP absorbed SP, UP units were fairly common. Here's an SP B30-7 in the Etowah, TN yard in October 1997.

South East Coal Company, a unit of Tepee Coal, owned and operated their own locomotives, including old ALCo switchers, second-hand GP20s and newly bought GP38-2s.
SECX ordered three GP38-2s to complement their six ex-UP GP20s in 1979. Built in March 1979, they were delivered in April of that year. Ironically, as their GP20s had come from UP, SECX's GP38-2s would end up on the UP. After SECX went bankrupt this unit became C&NW 4701. When UP absorbed C&NW this unit became UP 2070 and was later renumbered UP 400. Today it is still operating as CEFX 400.

In June and July of 1976 Dad's B&B crew was working at Morley, TN and on three occasions Dad got to ride along with the crew of the Clairfield Local in the afternoon after his work crew had finished for the day.
The Clairfield Local worked the Trevilion Branch, which was a joint L&N/Southern line from Morley, TN to Fonde, KY. L&N locals originated out of Lafollette or Morley while Southern locals originated out of Jellico, TN.
On June 8, 1976 Dad took this nice cab shot of L&N C420 1322 (ex-Monon 505) switching the Copper-Glo tipple at Clairfield, TN.

Alco RSD-16 Diesel Electric Train Engine - Línea San Martín - LSM (Palermo, Buenos Aires)
It's called as Alco RSD-16 by many local train lovers though there is no information about this locomotive in Alco's production manuals. Its appearance is very similar to the Alco RSD-12, and also MLW RSD-14.
Raúl Alejandro Rodríguez wrote:
The ALCO RSD-16 was an export model. It was basically an RSD-12 but with 6 axles and a four stroke diesel engine (the 1800 HP Alco 251). The Alco locomotives where acquired in 1957 and (among other lines) where put in service in the suburban section of the Ferrocarril General San Martín. But by the seventies they where supplemented with the General Motors GM EMD GT-22 locomotives (2200 HP two strokes diesel engines). Most of them where built under license by Astarsa in Argentina. From some 10 years ago also a few second hand ex Renfe series 319 Alcos were seen in front of those suburban trains. By now there are no GM nor Alcos as they were all replaced by new Chinese locomotives CSR SDD7.- Note that the Alco locomotives are taller than the GMs and that the GMs are longer than the Alcos. The GMs have the cabin in one end of the locomotive as the Alcos have the cabin not in the middle but near one end so they have one long hood and other shorter. This photo (PHOTO ID 478407) is a good shot of the two types of locomotives (left the GM and right the ALCO) in the colours of Linea San Martín.
