The 1C82 13.04 service from Paddington to Plymouth passed Bedwyn station at speed on a beautiful, if chilly, spring day. The service consists of two 5 car ‘800’ IET’s, 800 014 (Megan Lloyd George/Edith New) at the front, and 800 008, nicknamed the ‘Trainbow’, resplendent in the LGBTQ Pride colours. Let’s also namecheck ‘Alan Turing’, the wartime computer genius who cracked the ‘Enigma’ code which sent out daily instructions from the German High Command. His thanks from the nation was a prosecution for being gay, and treatment with a hormone called ‘Diethylstilbestrol’, in effect, chemical castration.! Good to get two named units together though.
