February 22, 2010, and the water cycle is in full effect. Rain and warmer temps are causing the snow to revert to a semi-gaseous form, causing a haze of fog as a loaded Ohio Central coal train rolls north a few miles north of Zanesville, Ohio.

Back in the day, I would have called this a GLT, Glouster Turn, because it has the nice neat loaf of coal in the gons behind the power, but I think the folks at G&W had changed the symbol to BOT by then. I never bothered to listen to the scanner back then, so I don't know. If saw a train from the office window, I knew it was train time. And if the power/weather/light was good, it was lunchtime too.

I always try to look for interesting bits of detail in my railway images, so this suited me down to the ground. Seen at Llangollen here as the crew give the Loco a well deserved drink of water

Wikipedia: Canadian National 89 is a E-10-a class 2-6-0 "Mogul" type steam locomotive, built in February 1910 by the Canadian Locomotive Company (CLC) for the Grand Trunk Railway (GT). Originally number No. 1009, it was renumbered to No. 911 in 1919. It then came under Canadian National (CN) ownership in 1923 when the Grand Trunk merged. It was then renumbered again to No. 89 in 1951. Most of No. 89's early life is a mystery, but it spent the latter part of its working life in Quebec until retirement in 1958 and being stored in the deadline in Montreal. It was purchased by F. Nelson Blount in 1961, who sent it to operate on the Green Mountain Railroad (GMRC) and later Steamtown, U.S.A.. It was then purchased in 1972 by the Strasburg Rail Road (SRC) who were looking for an engine to pull the half-hour trains. As of 2025, it is in operation at the Strasburg Railroad.

The Jacobite steam train crossing the 21 arch Glenfinnan viaduct during the Easter holidays. The viaduct crosses the river Finnan at a height of 100 feet. This is Scotland's longest concrete railway bridge at 416 yards. The single line track was opened on 1 April 1901. The viaduct has been used in a few TV series and films including Monarch of the Glen and the Harry Potter films. The structure overlooks Loch Shiel and the famous Glenfinnan monument, well worth a visit. took a wee video of the crossing, not sure if it would upload to flkr..

I've been waiting for some time to chase one of Northern Lines Windmill trains in good light and a few weeks ago, it finally happened. NLR 1411 heads down the old Cold Spring spur with windmills for Sauk Centre. Once they make the trip out to Rockville they will be unloaded and then trucked the rest of the way.

It's Santa time at Fort Blackmore as Clinchfield 800 brings the 75th edition of the Santa Train to town. CSX did it right with this one; I can't wait to see what they do for the 100th edition.

That is, assuming that CSX and I are still around in 25 years.

One of the many many many train stations in Japan, this one being Yokosuka. If you get the opportunity to visit the country, research about the train etiquette. Majority of citizens in the country use it as transportation so you want to make sure you give a good impression :)

IAIS trainload of road ballast sits at Bureau Junction, IL late last November.

I am posting as many Autumn shots as I can since we no longer have any leaves and snow is in the forecast. Hope you enjoy them!

I generally dislike seeing CSX power on this KCS train or its counterpart, the I-VNKC...unless it's clean like this leader. This train will become the Q106.

I went to take some photos of trains with a friend for the first time, something different. However, I know next to nothing about trains, so hence the simple title - train.
