The Maryland Heights Trail is part of the historic park at Harpers Ferry, which spans the states of West Virginia and Maryland. The trail features a quick ascent through pastoral woods, eventually leading to a spectacular overlook that peaks down upon the historic town and the notable confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers.
This is about an hour if sitting out in the cold, i'm just glad the result turned out good. I guess it wasnt a complete waste of time. This is effectively my first attempt at star trails. Clear skies come few and far between in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Best viewed if you hit the "L" key for large.
That is a big stone that sticks out of the ground near the rugby pitch on campus. Its got lichen and stuff growing on it so it makes an interesting foreground.

Once the sun dips behind the Escarpment, anyone left on this trail is fair game for the hungry mosquitoes lurking in the undergrowth!
Went out to Dove Mountain, Arizona with my friend capture star trials and then some clouds rolled in after about an hour of shooting so I just used the pictures without clouds and this is the result!
This was a long exposure, with the camera just held idly in my hand pointing sideways, as I walked along. And a car passed by.
So out this morning looking for wild orchids along this beautiful trail :-) I found 3 :-) Also found 1 million mosquitos!!!

Trails that naturally succumb into your subcouncious logic, opening the new horizons for one's mind. Only far away from masses of people and their greedy egos one can find it's true self and freedom within it.

This is the horse top view of our short trail ride in Heber City over the weekend. It was cold and wet but it made for dramatic scenery. These horses were on autopilot the entire way.

Star trails wheel over Lake Superior. Taken from the front door of my rental cottage at Tamarack Waterworks in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. The old building was part of the waterworks. Just beyond it is a very icy Lake Superior.
Sadly, my tripod shifted just slightly, part way through the star trails. What should have been a 3 hour exposure turned into about 90 minutes worth of stars. Still pretty good, though.
From my week long writing retreat / snowshoe extravaganza visit to the Keweenaw, February 2022.
