Scenes from the towpath of the Trent & Mersey canal as it winds its way through the Malkin's Bank area of Sandbach, Cheshire.

Forth and Clyde Canal at Maryhill. The structure on the towpath is a 'doocot' (dovecote) or what's more commonly known as a pigeon loft. It's constructed of many layers of corrugated iron and other materials, and has a door which would put a nuclear shelter to shame. I was told by a passing lady that 'the man' comes once a day to tend the pigeons, and sure enough you can hear the birds cooing contentedly away, presumably awaiting their next race.
The structure with floodlight in the middle background, is Firhill Park, home of the famous Scottish Premier League team Partick Thistle, and some would say today, home of the more famous club mascot, (scary) Kingsley. The kids love him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingsley_(mascot)

An autumnal scene at Gillibrand Bridge on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal between Appley Bridge and Parbold.
Taken on a frosty evening as the sun set. This is a fairly old picture which has been processed using Aurora HDR software to bring out the shadows.
Not much floating on or flying by the canal between Tilstone and Bunbury Locks so I took a photo of two female Homo sapiens on their morning walk :-)

I think these are inkcaps (Coprinopsis atramentaria) well into the process of deliquescing, but in too nice a spot to ignore!

She certainly stood out on the towpath at Cosgrove MK. She was a Kiwi a long way from home and we got chatting about her native New Zealand, a lovely country that my wife and I toured on our retirement. Those were the days when such things were possible, seems a long time ago now. It made me realise how much more restricted Covid has made our lives...
