It was rebuilt (height brought to 45,6 m) in the 16th century. A staircase with 215 steps leads to the top of the tower. This group of towers is visible from just about everywhere in Baku. They contain residential apartments, a hotel and offices, and are lit at night to resemble rising flames.

This mural is called “Tower of Songs, Hommage à Leonard Cohen”, 2017, by Miles MacGregor (El Mac). The building is at 1420 Crescent Street in Montreal, Quebec. It is visible from the viewing plaza on Mount Royal (Parc du Mont-Royal). It looked tiny from there, even at the 200mm limit of my lens, so I borrowed by son’s camera, a Lumix ZS60, with a 760mm full frame equivalent range, and zoomed right in on Mr. Cohen. I recall seeing the photo that is the basis for the mural, but could not find the original source.
Leonard Cohen (1934-2016) was a superb songwriter and poet. I heard someone say that the greatest songwriters write songs that they can’t sing.
I am partial to K.D. Lang’s version of “Hallelujah.” So was Leonard Cohen apparently.
This lighthouse in A Coruña, Spain was built by the Romans in the 1st century AD. It was built to warn ships away from the rocky coastline facing the Atlantic Ocean in northwest Spain. You can see what was probably an outside ramp that spiraled up the tower.

The Tower of Hercules (Galician: Torre de Hércules, Spanish: Torre de Hércules) is the oldest known extant Roman lighthouse. Built in the 1st century, the tower is located on a peninsula about 2.4 km (1.5 mi) from the center of A Coruña, Galicia, in northwestern Spain. Until the 20th century, it was known as the Farum Brigantium. The Latin word farum is derived from the Greek Φάρος, Pharos, for the Lighthouse of Alexandria. The structure stands 55 metres (180 ft) tall and overlooks the North Atlantic coast of Spain. The tower was renovated in 1791.
There is a sculpture garden on the grounds of the lighthouse featuring works by Pablo Serrano and Francisco Leiro [es]. The Tower of Hercules is a National Monument of Spain and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 27 June 2009. It is the second-tallest lighthouse in Spain, after the Faro de Chipiona.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is the Campanile, (a freestanding bell tower), of Pisa Cathedral. It is known for its nearly four-degree lean, the result of unstable foundations.
The height of the tower is 55.86 metres) on the low side and 56.67 m on the high side. The width of the walls at the base is 2.44 m. Its weight is estimated at 14,500 tonnes. There are 296 or 294 steps because the seventh floor has two fewer steps on the north-facing staircase because of the tilt.
The tower began to lean during construction in the 12th century, due to soft ground which could not support the structure's weight. It worsened through the completion of construction in the 14th century. By 1990, the tilt was 5.5 degrees and the tower was in danger of collapse. The structure was stabilised 1993-2001, reducing the tilt to 3.97 degrees.
Ivory Tower
In these days my memories from my trip in Canada are emerging powerfully so I have decided to publish a shot that was waiting in my hard drive since more than one year. Was a cold morning walking in front of the Mount Assiniboine. This white spire appeared from the dark clouds was like a vision from another planet. Well, I am quite used to alpine environments and to the wonders of the mountains but that morning was something unbelievable and the memory is still vivid in my mind as if it happened just yesterday.
I have shooted a pano that is quite unusual for me but the vastness of the landscape and the characteristics of the place made this choice mandatory.
