Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, London: Friday 30 May 2014: Breaking Barriers Football Tournament.

Over 100 young people from across Lewisham and Southwark came together to play a half-term Football Tournament at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

Run by Active Communities Network and supported by the Lewisham Council Youth Service, two tournaments simultaneously; 9 teams of 13-16 year olds and 5 teams of 17 + year olds - all competing for the Breaking Barriers trophies.

The event gave young people the opportunity to come together take part in a large-scale tournament and also worked towards challenging the negative perceptions of various postcodes.

Bromley Street Looking towards Turf Lane.

Bromley Street dates back at least to the circa 1844 or earlier when it was just footpath connecting Turf Lane with Bower Lane through the fields and coal outcrops and fun fact this connection still survive to date only with a modern day rerouting and modern construction but will come back to that shortly.

By 1890 a small section of the footpath was converted to become a residential street with one house which was attached onto No.41 Turf Lane and this sole house became No.2 Bromley Street not No.1 Bromley Street.

By the early 1950s the footpath saw very little change with no more housing coming until the lates 1970s through to early 1990s the original changes was Bower Lane changed it name to Hollinwood Avenue and allotment sprung up beside the footpath.
