In 1999 we were at the highest point on the island of South Rhona and had the entire island to ourselves. At the moment, the air went very wierdly cold and the light was almost apocalyptic. Ann was using polarising glacier glasses to see the sun.
I wanted to capture the entire umbral stage in 5 minute intervals. Alas, my 18-200mm Nikkor wasn't really up to the task, particularly while the moon was under greatest eclipse.
I also converted the images into an animated GIF.

I was up all night shooting the solstice on Westpunt, Curaçao, together with jetrated
when the solstice was complete it was completely dark, accept for the billions of stars, the thousands of shooting stars and the hundreds of fireflies. And there was this deafening silence...........
it was totally worth the night's sleep deprivation: a night I won't forget that easily.
