This is a clumping type of ginger with large elongated leaf stems that may attain 20 feet. The name describes the inflorescence that forms at the end of a stalk and resembles a torch. This ginger is native to the East Indies. It is not recommended for small confined areas.

Just to carry on the theme of the olympics with another picture of Sue, this one was down the seafront itself with Eastbourne pier in the background.
I asked Sue to hold the olympic torch above her head to frame the pier in the background, this was to show a part of our wonderful town in the picture..
I really liked the golden rim light in the previous picture but I have controlled the highlights much better here with very good exposure on the torch itself.
The torch being a reflective material and the white outfit was very hard to get right but I think I pulled it off.
This was taken with my Nikon SB600 on a stand with see through white umbrella to my camera right and set to 1/2 power at 70mm.
I stood further back and zoomed in to make the pier seem closer than it was to Sue as it was quite small in the background.

This was a big learning curve for me and I learned a lot being put under a bit of pressure, I came away with ideas on how to improve things for next time as I was using quite high ISO's to let in as much ambient light as possible and want to reduce those to better levels to enhance the quality even more.
P.s keep your eyes peeled as my wife keeps on at me to start my blog which I'm sure I will start very soon.
Also thankyou for all your continued support and amazing comments especially to my flickr friends.

Photos from the Easter parade at Sao Bras de Alportel. The men carry "torches" of flowers and the route follows the streets laid out with patterns of flowers.
The afternoon flight taxis for take-off passing by the tower at Kingsford-Smith Airport. The tower glows like an Olympic torch in the late afternoon sun, as the cloud cover sets in from the south.
I like the light on this one...

Yes, more vacation photos! This was my first ever visit to Torch Lake. It is absolutely beautiful and I plan on going back again some day.
My second shot using a borrowed Clulite CB2 1 Million CP Lamp. This shoot was a nightmare due to condensation forming on the lens and filters, which has forced me to bin 70% of my shots from last night. I like this lamp but I find the light from it a little warm and would prefer even more CP, maybe 2 or 3 million in order to enable a shorter exposure time, as my camera is pants at dealing with noise from low light long exposures, which I've tried my best at dealing with here. Additionally, I find the most difficult part of painting with light on this scale, to be judging the light spread evenly across the subject. However, I'm sure with practice it'll get easier :-)
PLEASE DON'T CONFUSE THE CLOUD LINE WITH THE HORIZON HERE :-)

Some of the support vehicles for the Torch Relay parked up at Brighton Marina. On the left is DIB 2061, a 29 year-old Van Hool T818 semi-decker, which was once with Eastcliff, Dawlish and Western National (2243) but was new to Flights as TOA 727Y. It's window line has been heavilly modified at some point!. Alongside is 7 OUR, a more recent Ayats Bravo decker, new to DSB, Lambeth as W50 DSB. Both currently with Starcruiser. On the right is SKR 616G, the back-up Lloyds TSB promotional bus from Malta. No idea what it is, I'm afraid! Lovely July weather - wet and windy!
