Kniphofia uvaria is also known as Tritoma, Torch Lily or Red Hot Poker due to the shape and color of its inflorescence. The leaves are reminiscent of a lily, and the flowerhead can reach up to 5 feet in height. There are many varieties of torch lily, and they bloom at different times during the growing season. The flowers are red, orange, and yellow.
The picture was taken in the village Górki Wielkie (Upper Silesia, Poland) on the noble mansion, built in 1781. In 1922 the manor of Marklowski family was bought by Tadeusz Kossak from the famous family of artists and painters. In the mansion also lived his daughter Zofia Kossak-Szczucka (2. voto Szatkowska), a well known Polish writer.
She walks only if midnight, the darkness of the sky hiding her beautiful face. Her body appeared motionless as she would always run, the rustling of the trees masking her incredible features. With eyes as bright as the moonlight above her, she carries only a torch to light her way through the endless forest. The wind is nothing but a mere, yet beautiful distraction compared to this stunning image.
