Once again, it's worth highlighting the stupidity of some of those airport regulations in place.
I took out of my bag my 75mL toothpaste (like I did when I flew here, but it went fine then), the 1st security agent looked at it, said ok (the limit is 100mL), then it went on the x-ray belt, the 2nd security agent took it and told me: you may not take it with you because it's not in a transparent plastic bag!!! I didn't bother arguing (you're better off letting them do) but I can't help, once more, telling how idiotic some rules are. She most certainly would have better seen it was toothpaste had it been in a transparent plastic bag. And of course, needless to say it also makes it much safer.
Now, not endangering the flight safety, I could go, and so I did and bought a new toothpaste after the security check. That one did not have a transparent plastic bag either, but is certainly much safer (see picture, it's written "mint" on it).
This is as idiotic as forbidding to take nail clippers on board. You could cut, say, some nails with that. That's gross though, not unsafe, and I agree with the rule ;-) But when on board, the flight crew will give you, with a smile (unless you fly Finnair) nothing else but... metal forks and knives.
