Gainsborough's token nod to it's part in the Seperative movement is this residential street, right on the Southern edge of Town - Mayflower Close. Named, one assumes, after the famous Pilgrim Father's vessel of the same name, which carried the dissenters to a new World.
One of these dissenters was John Robinson, born in Sturton-le-Steeple, studied at Cambridge where he became a fellow and then dean of Corpus Christi College.
Later, in Norwich, he was dismissed from his position as an Anglican minister. Returning to Scrooby he became Richard Clyfton's assistant and a friend of John Smyth.
Robinson led the Pilgrim congregation in Leiden and continued to inspire them in their emigration to Plymouth in New England.
Robinson's independent Pilgrim congregation is seen by many as the origin of Congregationalism and, as such, a direct ancestor of the United Reformed Churches in England and the United Church of Christ in the United States, and is commemorated in the Town's United Reform Church on Church Street.

Between 1649 and 1672 there was a severe shortage of small change in Britain, and many traders illegally produced their own, for local use. This farthing was made by Barnard Reeve, landlord of the Angel Inn, in the Market Place, Basingstoke - hence the angel on the obverse. The coin is actually 5/8ths of an inch (1.5cm) across.
The signalman waits for the single line token from the up train at Horsted Keynes. The line south of here was only ever single track so this is a scene that has been played out for more than 130 years on this line.
Please be aware... I am no coin expert. Titles here are either what I was told when acquiring these or are from a simple Google search. I make no claim as to them being 100% accurate but I make an effort to be as factual as I am able when posting. There may well be some duplication of coin type or variety, but I try not to double post any single coins. My feeble brain may slip on that from time to time. These are all from my semi worthless collection of world coins from over the years. Little to no value exists in most (if not all) of them. They are just a hobby.

The New York City Transit Authority first introduced the "Bullseye" tokens on January 1, 1986 when the fare was raised to $1. The metal disc in he centre was to prevent the use of slugs by fare evaders, although that didn't stop the token suckers.
The tokens were used through two more fare increases - $1.15 in 1990 and $1.25 in 1992.
