Strobist: AB1600 with gridded 60 X30 softbox camera right. Reflector camera left. Triggered by Cybersync.

I've posted pictures of this horse before. I occasionally get lucky enough to take my granddaughter to her riding lessons. When I do, I bring my camera along, especially at this time of year when the lesson happens over golden hour.

Photo post processed in Luminar4.2, then desaturated in Lightroom.

Last week, I simply didn't get 'er done. I hate it when work gets in the way of fun.

Anyway, while not very artistic, creative or challenging, a self-portrait with an Alaskan flair to it...the Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline. At Mile 8 of the Steese Highway, just north of Fairbanks, Alaska (taken Tuesday of this week).

Oh...this is Mile 450 of the 800 mile long pipeline.

SPNC Year 2 Instruction #23: "Reveal a moment of human introspection within a bustling environment. Evoke the viewer to identify their own moments of reflection." - Brian Sokolowski

This week's Saturday Timewatch shows the old token system that was used to ensure only one train was on a stretch of single track at the same time. Look closely and you can see the crewman holding a circular metal ring that will be taken by another staff member on the station platform as the locomotive passes. The token, with a specific geographical name on it, is a unique item to that particular stretch of track that the train has just travelled along. So once the token is safely handed over it will then be conveyed to the train waiting on the other platform so that it can then proceed from the station.

The photo was taken on he Swanage Railway heritage line. However, I clearly remember the use of manual tokens along the Cambrian Coast line before an electronic system was introduced. From memory, I think that was sometime in the late 1980s.

One of the few remaining Token working lines within NSW is the Braemar branch from Mittagong Junction to Braemar to service a Railway sleeper production plant. When large quantities of concrete sleepers are required trains run to pick them up. It takes 3 days to load an entire train, on day 1 of the operation DL43 sits at the head of 2M51N awaiting the end of their pre-departure checks with 8237 out of sight behind. The train would shortly depart for Moss Vale.

82 and DL class have been regulars on these for the past 3 or so cycles, the train usually runs once per month. This train then went up to the North Star branch to drop sleepers for construction of the new ARTC Heavy Haul Inland Rail line.

For those not familiar with the system, especially those out of the UK, this photo illustrates the railway token system in action. The gentleman in the safety vest has just handed the token to the locomotive's fireman. Taken at Swanage Railway, both are volunteers with the heritage line.

Now that 34072 "257 Squadron" has possession of the only token that exists for the section of single line that begins just after the bridge, that means no other engine can enter that length of track. It is a very simple and very safe way of operating. Performed manually here, on mainline single tracks such as nearby between Moreton and Dorchester South, tokens are now issued electronically.

This picture is for the group Macro Mondays and this week the theme is "Zodiac".

These three arcade game tokens are a few of the ones that I saved from the early 1980's. I used to go to the arcade with friends when I was a young teenager. A few of us girls mostly went to meet boys! :)

Peter took the scene at the exact moment the signalman and fireman were holding the token for the single line. Unfortunately on this holiday the Shoesmith's did not have good weather, they seemed to have had slate grey sky everyday and to judge by the puddle rain too.

The station house looks charming, clad as it is in ivy, meanwhile in the substantial shelter a lady is watching Peter rather than the token exchange.

W29 Alverstone was built at Nine Elms Works, it was an Adams 02, it entered service with the LSWR in July 1881. W29 was withdrawn during May 1966.

Between driver & signalman. A token is a physical object which a train driver is required to have or see before entering onto a particular section of single track.

Just as they have since the line opened, trains stop to exchange single line tokens at Glenwhilly. The signalman left it until the last seconds before he emerged from his box to avoid the midges!

The Token Grebe: Pied-billed Grebes are very common throughout America. They can be seen anywhere there is fresh water: marshes, lakes, slow-moving rivers, etc. And I personally have seen them everywhere that I have been where there is open water. Although this image is from Florida, I have even seen them occasionally at Brick Pond. I will be photographing Wood Ducks and suddenly a Grebe will appear behind one of the ducks. It will surface, look around and then dive back down, typically not resurfacing again until it has moved out of view. It's fun to see them peek out and announce their presence. On the day that I got this photo there was a large group of them, more than I've ever seen in one place. Possibly some are on the move to their summer homes in the northern US. However many will stay in the south all year. March 2016

"7 Days of Shooting" "Week #32" "Love or Loathe" "Minimal Sunday"

Which is your preferred "token of love" on Valentines Day ... a carefully selected and presented dandelion or an expensive bunch of red roses?

I hope everyone takes cares of my shy little Frogs, they need plenty of attention and wuv. If you got one then you were kind to me, or I liked your build or you’re awesome.

Special thanks to @millionprints for quick turn around of my silly idea.

I wanted to mark my @brickcon_official keynote with a special token. which of course was designed, procured, printed and completed during #FROGust.

Here’s the instructions for anyone that wanted to make their own shy little Frogs.
