Horrible grey day today so I took myself out of my comfort zone and tried some macro photography

Happy Windmill Wednesday!

Explored # 402, April 9, 2015.

Having not visited the Toadstool hoodoo in a number of years it was good to see it still standing and not defaced. I was also glad for the strategically positioned white cloud to accentuate the amazing geography!

We found these delightful toadstools growing near a rotting tree on the trail from White Wolf to Lukens Lake. The blue lupine was one of several varieties blooming along this trail.

Funny the things that can pop up overnight...

It's been very dry here, however these have all appeared.. Nothing on the woodland floor, all on old wood, moss or trees.

Again, be warned: I have a bunch of photos from Utah and Arizona that will be coming down the pike here shortly.

I was lucky enough to spend A LOT of time exploring some areas in Utah and Arizona with some fascinating geology: whirling shapes, winnowed toadstools, and strange rock colors were the focus of the 2-plus weeks I spent in the area.

In this photo (a 2-row panorama of 3 photos each), a large toadstool stands proudly against the Milky Way. At the center of the Dark Horse nebula you can see the planet Jupiter shining brightly. My low perspective and upward-tilting angle didn't do much to show off just how massive this toadstool actually was: I'm guessing it's around 20-25 feet tall. Pretty impressive specimen!

Thanks for looking!

Usually bright red in colour (though they can also be orange or yellow), with white gills and dotted with white wart-like speckles, the Fly Agaric is distinctive and, usually, quite easy to recognise, though there are a few similar and related species. At first they are globular in shape. They then mature into a hemispherical form, and finally into a flat plate-like shape. At full growth they usually range from 8-20cm in diameter and up to 30cm in height, though larger ones do occur.

This is another from Toadstool Hoodoos, a little north of Page, Arizona. Cool place. That's all I'm in the mood to write, It's been a long night. I spilled some wine on my keyboard and now it doesn't work. I've been using the keyboard from my old computer. I tried using the new little teeny keyboard that came with my new computer and couldn't get that to work. So, I tried a really old keyboard, but only half of the letters worked. Finally got the new (tiny) keyboard working. Turns out that you have to restart the computer for it to find the new (Bluetooth, wireless, tiny little keyboard)

It's been very dry here, however these have all appeared.. Nothing on the woodland floor, all on old wood, moss or trees.

A toadstool is a formation which has a boulder perched on a rock column like a mushroom, or "Toadstool". It is formed over millions of years when the softer rock under the boulder erodes away, leaving only the rock pedestal supporting the capstone. Captured in Grand Staircase Escalante N.M.

All toadstools/mushrooms are edible - some only once.

Toadstools, Perth & Kinross

With clear skies during our last workshop, we couldn't pass up a good opportunity for Milky Way photography. We headed out to The Toadstools and captured this scene. The clouds you see on the left came in quite quickly and within just a few minutes had completely covered the Milky Way. It was fortunate we arrived when we did and all participants were very happy with the images they got.
