Still starts with 'half a turn'.

Rusty tip squared into its surroundings.

This is a first for me. I have seen one last year, flitting through the garden, but it didn't alight on our plants.

My wife found this on our miniature Apple tree. It parked itself in the shade, so I made moves to lift it into the sunlight, as it was only about 6 deg. C.

This friendly little thing was happy to climb onto my finger and be photographed :-))

I've, so far, found 3 types of markers that work well with the EggBot.

1: The Sharpie Ultra-Fine Permanent Marker is the suggested brand of marker for EggBot - These boast a whopping 39 colors! These each seem to have their own quirks, but can be summarized like this: The red-based colors tend to run more readily - the lighter ones worse. Plan your plots accordingly - less is more!

2: The Sharpie Extra-Fine Metallic Oil-Based Paint Markers work great, but not with other markers. The body of the marker is thicker than the Ultra-Fine series – this prevents them from being used as accents. Not only are they difficult to line up, they also flow very readily and pull the pigments of the other markers. These run around $5 a piece.

3: For a truly FINE design – try the Martha Stewart Crafts .1mm Writing Pen. These markers come in only a few colors, and are about twice as much as the Ultra-Fine Sharpies. The marker body is pretty close to the Ultra-Fine Sharpies, so they work well for detail work in conjunction with those. These markers are very light and need a little extra weight to make them work right – it helps to put the cap on the butt of the marker. *Update: New testing has shown that these work well on the metallic oil-based and metallic standard Sharpie markers.

I really love these jointed feet for some reason!

Probably Colotis euippe (Smoky Orange Tip).

How much to tip a person who's simply working a counter . . . ? Of course, the money might be shared with those cooking the food, but no one is waiting a table.

Leamington, Ontario

A bit of a surprise on the streets of Leamington, Ontario. Catering to the needs of the migrant workers who arrive each growing season.

Good to know squirrels can be caught making funny faces on camera, too.

Repetition, with variation.

I'm amused by the angles these buildings have settled to, though I expect it doesn't thrill the building owners. I wonder if they alter the floors to keep them level.

I loved seeing all the bikes in Amsterdam - especially folks in work clothes. Mostly they rode upright bikes - without the prevalence of fancier bikes we see in the US. And everyone warned of bike theft. Perhaps the latter explains the former.

And bikes were everywhere. There was a giant bike parking lot by the rail station. Hooray!

I rented for a day and rode north to see the countryside. My most striking memory is of bike riders on a trail below giant modern windmills.

Trying out new photo story...tell me which one you like or maybe none at all.
