Project 365, Day 1
In middle school in San Diego I rode the bus to school while my friends got rides from their parents. I'd get there earlier than them, so I'd wait for them at the cul de sac behind the school where parents pulled up to drop their children off. When my friend Elena would arrive I'd run up to her car door and open it for her. Then I'd hold out my hand to her father, a New Yorker with long graying hair pulled back in a ponytail, and I'd say "Tip please!" He'd answer with his best Yankee grouse, "Here's a tip, get an education!" And as he drove away we'd walk up to the school to do just that.

While scrolling with Street View down C Street Northeast in Auburn I saw this former Transport International Pool trailer. That was a pleasant surprise. I was exploring a potential route for riding my recumbent trike.
***************************************************************************
"T.I.P." stands for "Transport International Pool,” a company that rented highway trailers to trucking companies. I worked for T.I.P. many moons ago, when it was part of Gelco Corporation.
When I went to work for T.I.P., I had never heard of it previously. Nor had I heard of the city in which it had its headquarters (Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania). All I knew about the trucking industry was that “trucks transport stuff.” My employment there was a great learning experience. Terms like “kingpin,” “landing gear,” “fifth wheel,” and “hub odometer" became meaningful, as did the names of companies with which T.I.P. did business.
The aspect of the job that I enjoyed most was parking trailers in our storage yard, which was great fun once I got the hang of turning the truck’s wheels in the opposite direction of where I wanted the trailer to go.
T.I.P.'s logo is almost identical to the "TIP" icon appearing in federal income tax booklets.
Since I left the company it has undergone expansion, merged with other businesses, been split apart, been sold a few times, and been renamed as well. Searching for "Transport International Pool" in Wikipedia in 2019 goes to a page about TIP Trailer Services, but that firm operates only in Canada and Europe. Whether there is still a USA company that is the result of all that change is difficult to determine.

the working side tipping (a.k.a. "skip" wagons) are very useful for moving ballast, rubble, soil etc. and redepositing them elsewhere!
the wagons are standard Ride-on-Railways items with the older type 3" diameter wheelsets, regauged from 5" down to my 3 3/4" gauge, which enhances the "narrow gauge" look of my railway.

The stoat (Mustela erminea), also known as the short-tailed weasel, is a species of Mustelidae native to Eurasia and North America, distinguished from the least weasel by its larger size and longer tail with a prominent black tip. The name ermine is often, but not always, used for the animal in its pure white winter coat, or the fur thereof.[2] In the late 19th century, stoats were introduced into New Zealand to control rabbits. The stoats have had a devastating effect on native bird populations (see stoats in New Zealand).
It is classed by the IUCN as Least Concern, due to its wide circumpolar distribution, and because it does not face any significant threat to its survival.[1] It was named one of the world's top 100 "worst invasive species" by the IUCN Species Survival Commission's Invasive Species Specialist Group.[3]
The ermine luxury fur is often used by Catholic monarchs, Pontiffs and Cardinals who sometimes use it as the mozetta cape, and devotional images such as the Infant Jesus of Prague. It also forms part of the parliamentary and coronation robes of British peers of the Realm.
Study Tip: Narrow it Down
If you try to study every single thing your teacher's ever said, you'll go crazy. Instead, focus on the most important topics. If you're not sure what those are, read the study guide (if there is one), or ask your classmates. #study

This is one of my complaints against Adorama umbrellas.
I've ordered them as described on their website but when I received them they came dangerous tips (that you can hurt yourself or someone) and they also printed a BIG Adorama logo to make Strobist photographers promote their website and products for free.

We have now had a week of poor weather since the last sunny day. I saw 2 butterflies on a short wander today in spite of it being cool and windy. Luckily this one stopped. Though I have photographed a few of these this year I still love every one I see.
