2019-02-01 DON COOPER The Tipping Point and Neutral Gray No 6 Sandler Hudson Gallery
Sandler Hudson Gallery is pleased to announce the latest body of work from celebrated painter Don Cooper. Cooper’s exploratory practice has led him from figurative painting to abstract work. As he says, “I’m looking for something I’ve never seen before, something described by its difference.” The "Tipping Point and Neutral Gray No. 6" is a show comprised of evidence of this search.
The work that immediately predates this exhibition explored the fire and heat of creative passion through the shape of the triangle. Cooper’s new paintings have become less specific. By stretching and distorting the triangular shape while attempting to retain the energy of the three-sided image, Cooper creates work that looks for meaning in imbalance.
D O N C O O P E R has lived and worked in Atlanta since 1976. He has been awarded fellowships from the Fullbright Program, SECCA 7, The Southern Arts Federation, CGR, and Awards in the Visual Arts. In 2004, Cooper was one of six Georgia artists to be included in the MOCA GA exhibition Transitions II, curated by Karen Comer Lowe. He is one of three winners of the inaugural 2007 MOCA GA Working Artist Project Grant. He was awarded the Judith Alexander Artadia Award in 2009. The staff of Freddie's Beach Bar are getting creative in their attempts to separate our customers from their loose change.
Arkansas Razorback Hunter Mickelson goes up for the tip off to start the game. I love this moment in basketball. I don't get to shoot much basketball. Only 17 photographers (including television) are allowed on court each game, and the wonderful small newspaper I shoot for doesn't command as large an audience as does AP for example.

Mide 26 cm. y pesa 165 grs. Es de tamaño mediano y de patas más bien largas; el forro alar canela rufo y la punta blanca de la cola (ver imagen) son conspicuos al volar; a corta distancia se nota la piel azul de la cara.
En los adultos la garganta es blanquecina y progresa a ante rosáceo en la cara, la parte delantera del cuello y el pecho, y a blanco en el abdomen y las coberteras infracaudales. La coronilla, la nuca y lados y parte posterior del cuello son café grisáceo, con un lustre púrpura iridiscente en el macho (muy tenue o ausente en las hembras). El resto de la región superior es café opaco. Las remeras son fuscas y las timoneras laterales negruzcas con una buena porción de la punta de color blanco. El iris es anaranjado, las lores y el anillo ocular desnudos azules, el pico negruzco y las patas carmín (ver imagen).
Los individuos juveniles son más apagados, sin tonos rosados ni iridiscencia; el cuello, el manto y el pecho exhiben un escamado anteado opaco, y presenta un moteado o listado rufo opaco en la coronilla. El pico es café rojizo y la piel de la cara es gris opaco.

The first time I've managed to get close enough to one of these for a photograph, so this will have to do for now.
This is the opening tip off of the Cleveland Cavs vs Boston Celtics NBA game on January 31, 2012 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Oh.
The Celtics would put together a 22 point lead in the 3rd quarter and lead by 18 going into the 4th quarter. The Cavs would outscore the Celtics 32-17 in the 4th quarter but the Celtics would hold on to a 3 point win, 93-90. The Celtics were led by Paul Pierce's 20 point and the Cavs were led by Anderson Verejao who would score 20 points and grab 20 rebounds.
Deputies serve the community in more ways than one. During Tip-a-Cop, the officers explain the Special Olympics Colorado and solicit donations separate from the customary wait-staff tips. Tidy Tips (Layia platyglossa) in Edgewood Nature Preserve near Redwood City, California. This shot was taken just as the sun was dropping below the horizon, and little green bugs were arriving to visit the flowers.
Perkins and Haywood battled for much of the game, including the initial tipoff. Two of the other big three (Ray Allen and Paul Pierce) watched.
At the Corner Bar's 3-pin bowling alley, a pinsetter returns the "duckpin" bowling balls (4-5 inches in diameter). The historic Corner Bar is located in St. Charles, MO.
BNSF's Pasadena Roadswitcher tip-toes very gingerly along the seldom used Metropolitan Water District spur in La Verne, CA on April 23, 2012. This spur runs north off the former Second District near La Verne University up to a water filtration plant, that has been around for years. Here the job with three GP60M's all in Santa Fe paint, is creeping down the short but steep grade at the entrance to the grounds.
I used to go see bands here when I was a teenager. Don't know if they have music here anymore. Maybe they still serve food and drinks?

Proper exposure is the exposure needed to get the end result.
When using a light meter (which I do and advise you to do) always remember that the reading is for the correct exposure of the diffused value (subject) but it can very well be that you want a bit more light on your subject. Feel free to do.
The meter will give you the perfect start. But don't let it hold you from being creative after that.
When you understand the meter you will actually know exactly how far to "push" or "pull" your image without loosing detail either way.
