Not very many of the dogs at the daycare get their own snacks. A few are on special diets and the puppies normally bring their own bag lunches but for the most part they go the whole day without eating.

To add a little bit of excitement to the day, and to distract them from my own lunch break, I started chopping up carrots (3-4) and giving them to the dogs as a special treat. I think they like "carrot time" quite a bit.

Normally assigned to local switching duties, MRL GP9 #130 gets a brief moment of prime time attention at the helm of the company's Silver Cloud business train. The train was brought to the NP Depot in downtown Missoula for a stationary luncheon, and is now shoving back to its normal place of residence at the G.O.B.

People record time by measured units so as to chronicle its passage. Certain events such as a New Year are observed and celebrated by much of mankind. Nature also keeps a record of time, chronicling its passage in the layers of rock, the rings of trees and many other methods as the seasons come and go.

However it is recorded, time marches relentlessly onward into the future.

at the gardens. Happy Bench Monday/ HBM

This sturdy looking barn looks to be in good shape yet even though the barn is surrounded by tall grass and mature trees that illustrate it has been a good number of years since the doors were left open for cows to enter and be milked.

In most of the earlier years of its intended use, a young farmer probably had no thoughts of his lifestyle and method of making a living coming to an end. Like most farmers as he went about his daily work he probably twirled ideas around in his head thinking about how he could expand his operations and maybe even provide a pathway for one of his sons or daughters to carry on his farming lineage.

But today looking back, there was a day when he ground feed for his cows for the last time, milked for the last time and saw the milk truck rumbling out of his driveway for the last time. Gone were the thoughts of expanding and in their place was probably a struggle to adjust to the new realities facing him.

Last times in our lives often sneak up and nip us much like a stranger's ornery dog, quietly and with little warning. My wife and I have been privileged to travel to her family's home in Australia over a dozen times but one day we suddenly realized health problems signaled those trips were all in the past.

www.cincinnatizoo.org/

Never far from water, the Steller’s sea eagle displays impressive fishing skills. Taking advantage of warm updrafts of air, the eagle glides above the water, looking out for fish. Its favorite prey, the salmon, has an extremely tough skin for which the eagle is equipped with a specialized hatchet-like beak.

In addition to diving from above, the sea eagle will also stand in the water and grab fish as they swim by.

If given the chance, Steller’s sea eagles will steal food from other birds.
