Tile Car
The "Tile Car," from Art Donaldson's personal collection, is a 1963 Lincoln Continental with suicide doors.
The original owner, Detlef Schwartz, was a professional plate spinner known by the single theatrical name of "Alcetty." Alcetty first covered his car with leather which cracked within a year. His next attempt was with ceramic tile. The tile was so heavy that it was necessary to cover the body with armor plate, put on overload springs and use shock absorbers. The extra thickness of armor and tile required extension of the car's length to avoid an ugly overhang. Alcetty used elastic autobody putty as an adhesive as well as grout. Then he spray painted the light putty with black paint and wiped the paint off the tiles themselves to give the effect of black grout.
The radiator installed by Alcetty was designed after the tall and elegant Rolls-Royce radiator of classic fame, except he squashed it down to more of a square. It is said that Alcetty's design was the origin of the present Rolls-Royce low radiator design.
The black interior of the car is highlighted with a tile dashboard and tile window panels. One ton of weight was added to the car from the tile which puts the car's total weight at three tons.
Alcetty traded the tile car to a professional magician, John Daniel, of South Pasadena, California, for ten thousand dollars worth of toy trains and two carousel animals.

Amy spent 3 days at Beaconsfield working with Nursery through to Year 6 to paint these 'healthy eating' themed tiles. Inspiration came from the balance of good health plate. The 360 tiles will be mounted in the school canteen.
Heath tile- In the old days when Edith Heath owned the shop in Sausalito it was a true artists studio! The creativity was contagious and I really miss it. Many creative odd pieces and cheap prices. You had to walk through piles of broken tile to get to the yard where tile boxes were dangerously stacked sky high. A fun adventure!
When Edith was selling the place, they brought out everything imaginable, so many cool projects and experiments! I picked out this tile rug from perhaps a dozen different big mosaics. Don't know who made it or when.

Royd House is not only another of Wood's flat roofed houses, it is a house that he built for his own use. As you can see, the front of the house faces the road and is semi-circular in shape. The front door is set-in below a magnificent, intricate and colourful tiled panel. Apparently, this geometric design is carried on throughout the house. Wood designed the house in 1914 and moved into it from his Middleton home in 1916.
The geometric design theme, in the tiled panel above the door, is mirrored in the door itself. The pattern is moulded in relief and areas are picked out in different colours. Apparently the same decorative theme carried on to the interior doors and in Wood's time was also reflected in the furniture. John H. G. Archer is of the opinion that in creating the design Wood was probably influenced by his travels in Spain, Tunisia and Persia.

Painted tiles in San Pedro, Eivissa - the crazy pattern of reused tiles is even more attractive than the original formal design.
The church was originally that of the convent of San Vicento y Jaime (according to www.gpsmycity.com/tours/religious-sites-tour-in-ibiza-479...); it also appears to be Santo Domingo according to other accounts (www.ibiza5sentidos.es/visita-ibiza/iglesia-de-santo-domingo/); and it is also dedicated to the Cristo del Cementerio (Christ of the Cemetery). Altogether a bit of a mystery, which my research has failed to solve.

All the traditional Korean houses in our neighborhood have to get their tiles from somewhere. There's a little tile shop in one of the back alleys of Samcheongdong where they sell nothing but tiles.

City Palace forms one of the most famous tourist attractions and a major landmark in Jaipur. The beautiful palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh during his reign. Among the various forts and palaces of Jaipur, City Palace stands apart, with its outstanding art and architecture. City Palace complex covers a huge area, which is divided into a series of gardens, courtyards and buildings. Initially, Raja Jai Singh built the outer wall occupying a huge area. The additional grand buildings were constructed later by the succeeding rulers.
A part of the exquisite Palace still makes home for the former Maharaja/ King. The premises consists several buildings like Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal, Mukut Mahal, Maharani's Palace, Shri Govind Dev Temple and the City Palace Museum. One would come across the Mubarak Mahal, as one enters the first square. Mubarak Mahal was built by Sawai Madho Singh in the 19th century to entertain his guests. Today, it has converted into a costume gallery, which displays royal attires of the Kings.
After crossing the first square, a beautiful gateway welcomes to Diwan-I-Khas, a hall meant for private audience. It has two sterling silver vessels on display and they are acclaimed to be the world's largest silver vessel. These vessels were made for Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II to carry water from River Ganga to drink on his trip to England. Diwan-I-Aam, which was meant for public audience, forms the other attraction of this courtyard. At present, it makes an art gallery showcasing enthralling painted ceilings and rare ancient handwritten original manuscripts of Hindu scriptures.
In the series, Maharani's Palace, which was meant for royal queens, has been converted into a museum, showcasing weapons dated back to 15th century. Chandra Mahal is essentially regarded as the best part, out of the whole tour to City Palace. It has seven stories and each story is known by a different name. The topmost story is known as Mukut Mahal. The wonderful architecture of this Palace with delicate paintings, mirror work on walls and floral decorations, makes it a "must-see" for every visitor. In the present day, this palace serves as the residence of ex-ruler.
