if you've followed my blog, you know the story. Undiagnosed thyroid disease leads to huge weight gain leads to other health problems. No matter how many hours I spend in the gym, unable to lose any weight. Finally diagnosed as "insulin resistant" by a female endocrinologist last month (explaining the inability to lose weight despite my efforts.) Put on Metformin- combination of 1-2 hr nightly workouts and exclusion of foods that are not DIABETIC FRIENDLY (I miss you, coke.) I am finally down 20 pounds from my highest weight of 237. I have a long way to go (another 70 before I can go off metformin) but at least I have progress. Finally. Am THRILLED. (breathes)

Looking good back on Thyroid meds and after a two hour spa treatment from me. Suddenly she looks skinny, my lack of skill made her look a lot wider then she is or was. This girl is once again happy, you always can tell by her tail.

she just had her thyroid test re-checked last friday. . .the results. . .
her thyroid 'is perfectly normal' YAY!!! the meds are working.
thank goodness for my original vet and the correct dosage amount and for my new vet and her holistic approach.
marlee has an appointment for a www.quantumtouch.com/ specialist next friday (we had to reschedule due to me being too busy this week)
she is also on some calming herbals and she seems to be happier. we'll see how she fares at mom and dad's this weekend. . .

Dr. Shroyer called today to tell me what the lab results were for Tigger. It appears that he has hyperthyroidism, which is accounting for his weight loss. After he finishes the course of antibiotics he's on now, I'll have to bring him back in to be weighed, and we will proceed from there as to what kind of treatment we'll do.
With thyroid problems, the condition can be treated with diet or pills, and since he will be really hard to give pills to, diet might be the best way to go, except for how I'll be able to keep his two brothers out of his food, and him out of theirs! Pills would probably be easier, that is, if I could get him used to taking them, which doesn't seem like it's going to happen! I will try Joan's suggestion of pill pockets as soon as I can get to the pet store. That might help, hopefully.
Thanks to everyone who has been praying for us! This weekend was the best I've seen in my store since I've worked there, and I will be hitting commission this week! Please continue to pray that sales are steadily better, as I still have two years of property tax to catch up on, and no homeowner's insurance, and the extra vet bills have been killing me financially! God has been providing, but I sure could use a few months of prosperity to pull out of the hole I'm in, and regardless of whether I do or not, I want to be able to take care of my pets to the best of my ability. They are good boys, and all getting older with issues, but they have given me a lot of joy and companionship through the years, and I want them cared for and happy!
I'll keep everyone informed as to Tigger's progress as we go along. For anyone who doesn't know, Tigger has his own group here on Flickr, which is where I found out about him before I adopted him! Check out "Tigger The Gatekeeper's Garden Clubhouse" to learn about his very interesting life, and to share your own kitty pics! This cat is quite a character, with a personality that is just fantastic. He's known all over the world, and I keep running into people who've encountered him in his days at Sugar Mill Gardens, where he was a fixture for years before he came to live with me. One girl even told me about him being in her wedding pictures when she was wed in the outdoor chapel area! No one seems to know exactly how old Tigger is, but we do know that he started his life out being called "Jack", by his first person. Somewhere along the line, he became Tigger, and has endeared himself to thousands of people, who have become his fans, of which I am one, also!
It was such good news to hear that there was a tangible reason for his weight loss, because if thyroid was ruled out, cancer was the most likely thing left. Hopefully we will be able to get Tigger healthy again, and he'll be able to live with me for many years to come!

Ready to start my day !! My recuperation from surgery is better and soon I will take the tape out and see my scar for the first time.
Today is a sad day for the people that knew the three stray cats that lived together on the side of one of the buildings in the town of Piscataway. For the past week or two Maggie has not been eating much and has been getting very thin. We think she developed a thyroid problem, which is common in older cats. I noticed last Tuesday she was not her usual self and after talking to others that knew Chelsea, Santana and Maggie, they all agreed something was wrong with her.
I went there this past Friday and Maggie did not jump into my FedEx truck the second I pulled up to where the three cats lived. She was just sitting on the sidewalk and had a distant look in her eyes. She did eat some wet food I gave her, but I knew something was wrong. I gave her a few kisses and she did give me the usual head bumps (the way she will kiss you) and was purring in return. I went to see the cats yesterday (Sunday) and I did not see Maggie.
This morning one of the girls at work there noticed Maggie in the bushes about a foot behind the house we built for the cats nearest the sidewalk. Maggie had died sometime over the weekend.
We think all three of the strays are between the ages of 7-10 years old. I first met Chelsea, Santana and Maggie back in March of 2009. Maggie was always the first to jump in my truck or even my car to say hello and to see what kind of food I bought with me. Maggie was the one who also helped me eat rice pudding the few times I would bring it as a snack for myself. Maggie always drove Chelsea crazy but the three cats always stuck together.
Chelsea and Santana are still doing good and they will continue to be fed daily and looked after. The houses we made for them are still there and they keep inside them when it is cold or wet outside.
The workers put Maggie in a blanket and she will be buried near where she lived. We will put a marker over the burial site and I will print a picture or something to put there too.
You will not be forgotten, Mags. She was annoying and a pest to Chelsea, but she also could make you laugh and forgive her too at the same time.
