A mature thunderstorm (cumulonimbus cloud) floats in the sky east of Grand Rapids Michigan, near the town of Ionia.
At the time it was dropping marble sized hail in Ionia County.
Yeah, you read correctly - this was in Michigan. Not Texas or Oklahoma, to the amazement of my storm chasing friends out there. :)
A big thunderstorm develops over Mammoth Lakes as I travel up Hwy.395 to the east out of Bishop, CA. This storm is about 15-20 miles away from me and quite impressive for June weather, very unusual.
Severe thunderstorm near Kanorado, on the Kansas-Colorado border, on the afternoon of 25 May 2017. The storm produced damaging outflow winds and large hail (2.75 inch diameter hail and 80 mph winds reported 13 miles south of Edson as the storm moved east).

A good view of the shafts of rain pouring from this Cumulonimbus (CB) cloud near Rocky Mountain House AB. Cumulonimbus is the meterologist's name for those big often anvil topped thunderstorm clouds that can vary in height from small ones in the 30,000 foot range to monsters in excess of 60,000 feet. This one was probably in the 35-40,000 foot range.
This impressive thunderstorm cell was imparing approaches into Zürich Airport. The picture was taken while approaching the AMIKI holding, which is located between Weinfelden and Kreuzlingen (Canton Thurgau)
Shot this during our holiday at HévÃz, Hungary. I couldn't set up my tripod properly so i missed the beginning of the storm, but I think I still managed to capture most of it.
Thunderstorm getting its act together. Top of cloud is covered with a pileus. Some storms went to severe status, after a severe thunderstorm watch was issued.

While camping at a wakeboard lake, we saw a thunderstorm crossing the horizon. No sound, no rain, no wind no direct influence. Just the thunderbolts. Impressive. July 2023
The first stop on this storm chase as I am under a massive thunderstorm tidal wave. The sky was lighting up pretty good with big inter-cloud burst. This big massive storm cloud was moving very fast. At this point the lightning strikes were cloud to cloud and inter- cloud. They were starting to hit the ground further out east, the next stop on my chase. This is in NE Boulder County, Colorado, view looking north. The city lights of Berthoud are lighting up the right part of the clouds, making for some nice colors. Settings - ISO 400 - f2.8 - 11mm - 25 sec exposure.

Winds gusted over 50 mph with this thunderstorm (note blowing dust). Captured only one good cloud to ground lightning stroke. I received only 0.11" from this storm.
Here's a Vertorama from a couple of weeks ago... captured on a farm near Durbanville... shortly before that dark cloud dumped at least 50mm of rain!
I've never seen so much rain falling in such a short period of time... even with my windscreen wipers at full-blast... I could barely see the road in front of me!
