githinjimwai: @mwendegitari @miss_hennessey @muzzner Thanks.
It snowed maybe half an inch that year and it melted before the sun came up, but everyone completely lost it lol. Hopefully it won't be such a big deal when I move to Massachusetts! 💖
For our #ThrowBackThursday today, we're sharing a shot of some of the damage to the Washington National Cathedral in DC that resulted from the M5.8 earthquake that struck Virginia on August 23, 2011 (this photo was taken in Aug. 2011). The earthquake was felt by an estimated one-third of the U.S. population. Many people who felt the earthquake weren't sure what they were experiencing, initially, and as a result were not as prepared to drop, cover, and hold on like many in the western U.S. that experience more frequent earthquake events.
Recently, we updated the National Seismic Hazard Maps which show the eastern U.S. has the potential for larger and more damaging earthquakes than considered in previous maps and assessments due to the research from the 2011 event. Regardless of where you live, you should learn to be prepared to react appropriately in the event that you experience an earthquake. Learn more about earthquake preparedness before, during, and after an earthquake at: ready.gov/earthquakes.

As a tribute to National Parks Week, here's our #TBT from Natural Bridges National Monument in Utah. In this short, we see Dan Perkins (USGS) standing on his horse "Cap" on top of Owachomo Bridge. We're assuming, of course, that the horse didn't get spooked suddenly. Thanks Dan for your bravery . Circa 1925. Credit: Lee, W.T., USGS
Well folks since I didn't do #TransitTuesday and this is #ThrowbackThursday, time to post a Sound Transit photo from 6/2018 in Kodak Ektachrome film tones. Adds a bit of urban grunge to the scene, eh?

Let's take a trip down memory lane, to a time when my photography life was much simpler. No fancy lenses, no backpacks filled to the brim, no tripods. Just a tiny little Kodak EasyShare that had no manual controls to speak of. Sometimes I do miss having a lighter load!
I may not have known much about the technical aspects of photography when I took this photo, but it still stands out to me as one of my favorites from Paris. After all, all the technical knowledge and fancy gear in the world doesn't guarantee a good photo.
For #ThrowbackThursday this shot taken in late 2009 during my very first "studio" shoot, with local hopeful Toronto actress/singer Tina Hung.
I made every technical mistake in the book, but learned a hell of a lot, naturally. Although this was a bit underexposed and the key light was poorly positioned, luckily I shot it in RAW and so I have been able to "rescue" it in this brand new edit I just did for #TBT.
The studio, in case you didn't guess, was my living room. Main light was a speedlight in an umbrella, camera-right. The background was lit by a bare flash with a homemade snoot shooting through an IKEA room divider, camera-left.
