Throwback Thursday and a photo from 2015 of wall art in our (rental) condo in Zihuantanejo Mexico; I've always loved their whimsical art (from Diego Rivera's life size murals in the National Palace in the capital to this take on marriage by an unknown artist).

Today is the start of a trio of well known celebrations: All Hallows Eve or Halloween, All Saints Day (Nov 1) and one of my favourites Dia de los Muertos (Nov 1-2).

And of course, these three days of celebration will be followed up by a US election...whew, that is a lot of action over the next few days. Be safe out there. :D

It snowed maybe half an inch that year and it melted before the sun came up, but everyone completely lost it lol. Hopefully it won't be such a big deal when I move to Massachusetts! πŸ’–

For our #ThrowBackThursday today, we're sharing a shot of some of the damage to the Washington National Cathedral in DC that resulted from the M5.8 earthquake that struck Virginia on August 23, 2011 (this photo was taken in Aug. 2011). The earthquake was felt by an estimated one-third of the U.S. population. Many people who felt the earthquake weren't sure what they were experiencing, initially, and as a result were not as prepared to drop, cover, and hold on like many in the western U.S. that experience more frequent earthquake events.

Recently, we updated the National Seismic Hazard Maps which show the eastern U.S. has the potential for larger and more damaging earthquakes than considered in previous maps and assessments due to the research from the 2011 event. Regardless of where you live, you should learn to be prepared to react appropriately in the event that you experience an earthquake. Learn more about earthquake preparedness before, during, and after an earthquake at: ready.gov/earthquakes.
