it was like a trademark for me to make photoshots using my dolls as an ecard for my bffs birthday. most of them will wait patiently and get so excited to receive and getting attached with an ecard on their facebook's account on their birthday. this is one of my favorite ecard since this is the first time i introduced them Ken as a dragqueen named Kendra and a tomboyish barbie look ;)

throwback (n): reversion to an earlier type or phase

This weeks theme? 80's. I have to tell you that I got all dressed up but my pictures stunk. My bangs are too heavy and just don't remember how to stand up straight. My braided leather belt is still the same length but my hips...not so much. It just doesn't hang right now. The end of it, that we used to loop around and back through the belt is just a little nub.

But I still have a huge chambray shirt circa late 80's early 90's. I still know how to apply black eyeliner to the inside of my lids. And I've still got some awesome scrunch socks. Yep, I still got it.

And who can remember the 80's without busting out their Aqua Net. You gotta have that hairdryer to get the full on wing effect to the hair. The comb makes for easy teasing on the bangs, provided they aren't too long. And you just can't go wrong with a finger full of tulip rings and that Swatch!

I swear, if banana clips ever come back in style. I'm there. I'm so there.

This week we are going back forty-one years to 1982 and to D 397 on Burgh Quay. The bus is dressed for route 62. This route started operating in 1936, being extended from Goatstown to Kilmacud in 1962, and to Beaufield Park (behind the Stillorgan Shopping Centre) in 1966. The route ceased to operate in 1999 when it was replaced by an extended route 11.

D 397 was new to CIE in 1971 and was withdrawn in 1985.

A vacation to Mexico City led to DeGrazia’s seminal one-man show at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in 1942. He and his wife Alexandra left a ballet performance at intermission when DeGrazia said, “Diego Rivera is doing murals at the Palacio Municipal…he might be working late, it’s worth a try.” They gave a guard $5, met Rivera and his wife Frida Kahlo, and the norteamericano was “ecstatic” when Rivera took him on as his student-assistant. DeGrazia’s 1942 show was again exhibited in Mexico City at the Museo Estudio Diego Rivera 50 years later. Happy Throwback Thursday!

Pepsi and Coke have both recently had a push to reintodce their popular sodas with pure cane soda instead of high fructose corn syrup, which has been oten used since the early 1980's. Corn Syrup is cheaper but many people say cane sugar tastes better.

For Pepsi products returning to cane sugar, they've returned to an old logo and added the word "Throwback." I drink more Mountain Dew than any other soda and I could tell a subtle difference.

This week we are going back nine years to 2015 and to the Dublin Port Rally.

This was the second year the rally was run, except it was held over two days rather than just the one in 2014. It brought together a variety of vehicles, both old and new, with a large gathering of buses included. Here are four preserved buses that used to operate in Dublin.

On the left is D 839. This bus was new to CIE in 1978. It was withdrawn by Dublin Bus in 1995. The bus is dressed for route 16A. This route started in 1955 between Beaumont and Lower Rathfarnham. In 1985 it reached Santry and during 1999 reached the airport. The route ceased to operate in 2012 under Network Direct changes.

Beside it is RH 7. It was new to Dublin Bus in 1990 and became a driver trainer in 2000. It was withdrawn in 2008. The bus is dressed for route 15B. This route started running between the city centre and Templeogue in 1952. In 1978 it reached Ballyroan, and in 2007 it was extended to Whitechurch. Since 2011 it has terminated on Stocking Avenue.

Beside RH 7 is MA 7, This minibus was new to Dublin Bus in 1993. It was withdrawn in the early-2000s. The bus is dressed for route 122. This route started as a City imp route in 1998, replacing previous routes 22 and 22A. It runs from Ashington to Drimnagh Road, via the city centre.

Finally, on the right is ME 26. This bus was new to Dublin Bus in 1994. In the early-2000s it became a ticket bus for the Nitelink. It was withdrawn in the early-2010s. The bus is dressed for route 150. This route started in 1994 under the City Imp brand, replacing route 50 which operated to Willington Roundabout. The 150 had its terminus at nearby Rossmore and ran via Crumlin to the City Centre. In 2011, it replaced part of route 121 through the Liberties.

Late Charger

The Charger was produced from 1966-1978. Like my wagon these later models are unrecognized by many. So I thought It was cool to showcase these in this weeks Throwback!

This week we are going back four years to 2020 and to the last leap day before this current one.

Dublin Bus SG 365 and SG 201 are seen in Beresford Place on routes 31 and 29A. CIE took over both routes from the GNRI in 1958, and both routes were replaced under Bus Connects in 2021. In their final forms, route 29A ran from the city centre to Baldoyle and route 31 ran from the city centre to Howth Summit. Under Bus Connects the 29A became route H1 and route 31 became route H3.

Both buses are Wright Gemini 3 on Volvo B5TL chassis. SG 201 was new to Dublin Bus in 2016, while SG 365 was new in 2017. Both buses are still in service with Dublin Bus, although SG 365 is now in TFI green/yellow livery.

This week we are going back twenty-seven years to 1996 and MA 3 at Blanchardstown Shopping Centre on route 237. This was a local route that connected the surrounding Blanchardstown area to the shopping centre. It started in October 1996 (along with the 238 and 239 when the shopping centre opened) and ran on a loop via Castleknock and Coolmine. The route was withdrawn in October 2010 under Network Direct. Its only change in all of that time was when the terminus within the Blanchardstown Centre was moved in 2006. The bus is seen here at the original terminus. The route was eventually replaced by route 37 between Castleknock and the Blanchardstown Centre.

MA 3 was new to Dublin Bus in 1993 and was withdrawn in 2001. It was initially allocated to City Imp route 120, but did also appear on the Blanchardstown local routes when they started.

This week we are going back thirty-four years to 1991 and to MB 11 on route 201 at The Square in Tallaght.

Tallaght gained three local routes in the late-1980s, numbered T01, T02 and T03. These routes served the various housing estates around Tallaght. and also started serving The Square shopping centre when it opened in 1990. Around that time the routes were also renumbered 201, 202 and 203. The 201 connected Killinarden and Kilnamanagh. In the 1990s it had a few changes, moving its western terminus to Jobstown, and its eastern terminus to Aylesbury and later to Kiltipper. In the early-2000s it started operating between Citywest and Bohernabreena, and this was its final form until the route was withdrawn around 2009.

MB 11 was one of fifteen MB Class minibuses delivered to Dublin Bus between 1987 and 1989. They were predominately used on the local routes around Tallaght and elsewhere in the city, under the Localink brand. All members of the class were withdrawn by 1994, with MB 8 passing to Bus Eireann.

Sergeant Scott W. Gilchrist, recovery team leader, 81mm Mortars/Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel Platoon, Weapons Company, Battalion Landing Team 3/5, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, practices a carabineer tie-off during rappelling training off the flight deck of USS Peleliu, March 5. The main training objective was keeping the 14 BLT Helicopter Rope Suspension Technique masters current in their qualifications, but it also gave the Security Platoon an opportunity to practice rappelling, which is one of the ways troops can be inserted into different situations. The 15th MEU is deployed as part of the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group as a U.S. Central Command theater reserve force, providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility. In 1949, the DeGrazia's bought 10-acres of land in the Santa Catalina Foothills, north of Tucson. Soon after Ted and Marion began to build their home on the grounds, at this time there was no electricity, water, or services. All supplies that they needed had to be transported from Tucson. They cooked their food in an old wood-burning stove and took showers outside with water from a bucket. Happy Throwback Thursday!

USS RUSHMORE (March 20, 2013) Sergeant Steve E. Barrientos, fire direction controller, 1st Platoon, Battery B, Battalion Landing Team 3/5, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, practices techniques from the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program aboard USS Rushmore, March 20. Barrientos, 23, is from Fontana, Calif. He joined to become an FDC because he thought it would best utilize his skills and because it was his lifelong dream. To pass time while deployed, he plays poker, reads and hangs out with his friends. His favorite part of the deployment has been training in foreign countries. He looks forward to going home to see his son and visiting his family. This isn’t a Corvette. It’s the Equus Throwback.

Okay, so it is a Corvette, sort of.

But this Corvette has been restyled, and given a little bit more grunt by Equus Automotive, creator of the Bass770.

The retro-inspired Throwback is a limited model, with only 25 planned by the Detroit-based company, which utilises the ‘Vette as a basis to create a “significantly upgraded” muscle car.

The Corvette’s supercharged V8 can be tuned to an output of 746kW and 1114Nm. Equus says it’s capable of a 2.5-second run to 97km/h (60mph), and has a top speed of 354km/h.

Equus Autmotive’s goal with the Throwback was to inspire a sense of nostalgia in muscle car fans while providing a car with modern-day usability.

“The Throwback model uses unique styling language in its outer skin to create a breathtaking vision of the ultimate Corvette. Equus takes the customer down memory lane to an era when Corvettes were synonymous with performance and class.

“The Throwback can be personalized for the design orientated drivers or for the fastest paced performance centric customer, always emphasizing the original love of an icon, desire for innovation and uncompromised quality.

“Just as companies like Brabus and Alpina focus on European brands, Equus Automotive is focused on providing American Sports car lovers the ultimate interpretation of todayʼs designs.

OMG you thought MY hair was big, Sorry about the bad crooked scan job!! This was me and my first roommate, we had an apartment together when I was 18. Clearly she liked to draw on the walls. We were on our way to go "out" YUCK! We were SO proud!!

This week we are going back twelve years to two Olympians on Kildare Street. Dublin Bus RV 539 is seen on route 15 to Scholarstown Road, while RH 86 is on the Dublin Bus Hop-on, Hop-off open-top tour.

Route 15 started running between the city centre and Scholarstown Road in 1988. In December 2011 it became a cross-city route, running from Clongriffin to Stocking Avenue, though a year later the southern terminus was moved to Ballycullen Road. In January 2015, route 15 (along with other routes) was diverted away from Kildare Street and sent along South Great George's Street instead due to Luas Cross-City works.

Like the 15, the Dublin Bus tour started in 1988, and today falls under the DoDublin brand.

RV 539 was new to Dublin Bus in 1999 and was withdrawn in 2012. It was sold on to an operator in the UK. The RV was a Volvo Olympian, while RH 86 was a Leyland Olympian. It was an older bus, dating back to 1991. In 2000 it became part of the Dublin Bus driving school, and in 2003 it became a tour bus. It was withdrawn in 2014.

When I rescued Rusty in 2015 I did not know that his red fur was caused from skin that had been infected and was healing. I actually named him Rusty because of that red coat! However, I am much happier that his fur is now its natural colour because his skin is healthy!
