DeGrazia once said, “I remember when I painted murals. I’d paint the whole wall–all the walls of a room. I’d paint all day for twenty-five dollars.” DeGrazia started painting murals after his two-year apprenticeship under Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco in 1942. Happy Throwback Thursday!
USS Peleliu At Sea - Service members, their families and friends view an air-power display aboard USS Peleliu, May 9. During the last leg of the deployment, guests came aboard the ship to experience life on the Peleliu and to learn what their Marine or sailor has accomplished during the past seven months. The 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit is comprised of approximately 2,400 Marines and sailors and is deployed as part of the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group. Together, they provide a forward-deployed, flexible sea-based Marine Air Ground Task Force capable of conducting a wide variety of operations ranging from humanitarian aid to combat. For the first shot of 2017 we are going back six years to 2011. On the face of it the shot does not look very remarkable. It is just a bus on the 33A in Balbriggan after making its way from Swords. However the destination is worth noting, for it says "Ballbriggan". For a period of time the destination screens on the 33 correctly had Balbriggan but the 33A for some reason gained an extra 'L'. This situation lasted a few short years before being corrected.
The route itself started in 2002. Dublin Bus proposed to run a more frequent 33A between Swords and Skerries/Balbriggan and reduce the number of services on route 33 which operated to Dublin. The idea was that passengers for the city would change in Swords onto the 41/41C. The plan was an failure and services were restored on the 33, with some departures on the 33A maintained. Day 166/365
With this week being E3, I was reminded of the way video game news was disseminated when I was growing up. Pictured here is issue #7 of Nintendo Power Flash magazine, which was Canada's version of USA's Nintendo Fun Club.
This delightful European toy was my favorite gift for Song. It even has interchangable backdrops and a red curtain!
This and one other photo were meaningful to me because they are reminiscent of a professor I had in college named Dr. Paul Siri Wilson. He was one of the most influential people in my life at that time and I think he would like this photo.

This week we go back forty years to 1984 and to D 277 parked on Hawkins Street.
This Leyland Atlantean was new to CIE in 1969. It was withdrawn and sold for scrap in 1985.
The bus is parked between duties, and is therefore showing no route number. The destination display is showing the Irish for Carrickmines (Carraig Mhaighin), which in 1984 was served by routes 63 and 86.
The New Metropole Cinema in the background opened in 1972. In 1984 it became the Screen Cinema. It closed in 2016 and was subsequently demolished. A new office complex built on the site is due to be completed in 2024 or 2025. The cinema appears to be showing "The World According to Garp", a 1982 film starring Robin Williams.
