We spent four nights staying in a well-appointed cottage on a coffee farm in upcountry Maui, which I highly recommend if you prefer a more relaxed and private vacation than the large resorts. It was downright chilly at night! The owner treated us to a 3 hour tour of this wonderful property, which she and her husband have been restoring for 30 years. The stream bed used to be filled with discarded appliance and rubble that washed down in numerous floods over the years.
If you've been counting, you know that this is the last day of 10 of my favorite Maui sites and activities. If you have enjoyed them, don't worry, as more will show up in my photo stream in the future.
I'm in New Mexico for a short visit with my family, so will post and comment as time permits. Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

I like the visual crookedness of the mirror frame in contrast with the square of the image. Also the fact that all the visual interest is inside the frame. Nothing special, but it appeals to me.

I was going through some old photos of mine and came across ones I took about 1-2 weeks after 9/11. They would not let you beyond a certain point to view and this is about 4 blocks away where you could see the remains of the buildings. People were looking on in shock. I think we were all in shock at that point.
Stanier 'Royal Scot' 4-6-0 no.46115 ‘Scots Guardsman’ heads through Lancaster station on the first of two tours along the WCML today. The Railway Touring Company’s "Midday Scot" was steam hauled from Manchester Victoria-Carlisle-Edinburgh. The return leg being diesel hauled.
Five units lead a westbound UP coal empty across the grade crossing at Blue Mountain and by the hotbox detector at MP 22.6. The train is heading for the West Elk Mine on the North Fork Branch in Western Colorado. As a railfan, it is good to see a minor uptick in coal traffic on the Moffat.

A pair of GE's race take a westbound manifest across the MRL's 2nd Sub at Greycliff. And although there are distant cliffs, I believe the town's name comes from the cliffs on the Yellowstone River out of frame to the left.

It's not necessarily easy to be a little gosling growing up with Sandhill Crane parents. Even though he doesn't need to share his parents with five siblings, and he has far more protection from predators than goose parents would be able to give him, he has to be very adaptable to the life he was given.
I have been following and photographing the family life and routines (yes, they have routines!) of this unique family for a week now. Every morning after leaving their nest in the reeds, they go through woods on their way to the more open foraging areas where the gosling is able to supplement his mostly protein rich invertebrate diet with grass. He stumbles over branches and quickly catches up with his parents who are always close by. Those cute, webbed footsies are better suited for swimming than hopping over or under obstacles in the forest 😂. Once they reach the pond, gosling happily swims, bathes and splashes water around like any kid does!
Couple hours before the sunset they begin slowly heading towards their nest for the night, foraging as they go. Gosling will take frequent rest breaks and lay on the grass as geese are often seen to do. They will cross the road and woods before they reach the safety of their nest and settle down for the night. It's beautiful to observe them! I am delighted to say that all the people I've seen watching this rare family have been extremely respectful and given the space to the wildlife they need.
76053 drifts through Penistone on the afternoon of 21st October 1980.
Withdrawal for 76053 came just a few days later on 2nd November 1980.
