Euonymus europaeus var. intermedius (acc nr 62095-H) in foreground, with E. hamiltonianus var. mackii (acc nr 11261-J, left back) and E. atropurpureus (acc nr 25531-H, right back), US National Arboretum, Washington DC

Euonymus europaeus and Euonymus hamiltonianus are commonly called 'spindle trees' because their fine-grained wood was used to make spindles and knitting needles.

GECX 2021 pulls east again on General Electric Transportation Systems' test track. The track is owned by the East Erie Commercial; the units are about a half mile from the end of the track. The catenary, which was installed when GE was building electric locomotives, is now de-energized.

Further photos of this 1/76 scale kit of three shop units that is now available.

The kit will include a variety of alternate shop fronts and signs.

It's just another morning catching the Transfer at the east end of BNSF's Northtown Yard. Here the WC transfer pulls out of the T-Yard to double up their outbound train in July 2001 right on schedule, making it an easy catch just about every morning. You can see the car with a WC employee pulling up to help with the joint as the BNSF carmen unlocks the track for the general freight that will go behind the stacks.

Today is our 6th wedding anniversary so I thought I would throwback a honeymoon piccy. The Egyptian Pyramids with the very smoggy Cairo in the background.

I always thought this shot made them look like three dogs having a beer at the pub.

The dog, sitting on the bench instead of on the ground, seemed to add to, and make the picture for me. Taken in Ghent Belgium.

Well actually just one…. but definitely grey. Can't wait to ditch the Mo at the end of the month…. Don't mind grey in my hair but a grey 'tache just makes me feel old.

The theme for Me again Monday was to take a selfie from a "different perspective"… I think a triptych counts!

Triptych concept for a portrait stolen from this awesome set of stranger portraits.

Today we are looking at the Guan Di Temple in the QVMAG in Launceston. If you read the descriptions on each of these three photographs today you will get a better understanding of the dedication and reverence that allowed these Taoist temples to be built in little mining settlements all over north-eastern Tasmania in the 1880s.

It would seem here on this screen we have the "Three Patrons" [三皇 Sānhuáng — Three Patrons (or Augusts) or 三才 Sāncái — Three Potencies; they are the "vertical" manifestation of Heaven spatially corresponding to the Three Realms (三界 Sānjiè), representing the yin and yang and the medium between them, that is the human being]:

伏羲 Fúxī the patron of heaven (天皇 Tiānhuáng), also called Bāguàzǔshī (八卦祖師 "Venerable Inventor of the Bagua") by the Taoists, is a divine man reputed to have taught to humanity writing, fishing, and hunting.

女媧 Nǚwā the patron of earth (地皇 Dehuáng), is a goddess attributed for the creation of mankind and mending the order of the world when it was broken.

神農 Shénnóng — Peasant God, the patron of humanity (人皇 Rénhuáng), identified as Yándì (炎帝 "Flame Deity" or "Fiery Deity"), a divine man said to have taught the techniques of farming, herbal medicine and marketing. He is often represented as a human with horns and other features of an ox.
