"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect."

In Inle Lake, Myanmar, in the village of In Paw Khone, we got to witness the amazing artistry of lotus weaving. (Only lotuses from this area can produce sap thick enough for lotus weaving.) First, the workers break open the lotus stalks by hand, and carefully create thread from their "sap". Then, they weave these lotus strands into such things as neck scarves (which requires 4,000 lotus stems), larger scarves (40,000 stems) or a full set of monk's robes (220,000 lotus stems, 60 weavers, and 10 days of labor)! Needless to say, lotus fabric is one of the most expensive in the world.
