In the grounds of Sydney’s Royal Botanical Gardens – I was directed by some friends to check out this absolutely enormous spider (a Golden Orb) in a web hanging out in the open area (perhaps it was trying to catch bats or a small bird :))
I killed ambient by shooting a fastish shutter (1/125th) with a tightly closed aperture to also gain some depth of field this close (f/45) and then lit the spider from the side to highlight it’s shape and the fine threads using an off camera flash with a kiss of light from the front using my LED macro ring light.

I sew at 2 different areas and was tired of chasing my pincushion around, so I made one to fit tightly into a sewing drawer that I keep sitting on top of the cabinet. Works GREAT! The little thing on top has sand in it, for my needles.
The thread is Knit-Cro-Sheen, almond pink, size 10. Crocheted with a Boye size 6 hook.
The design is by Mary Werst, "Exceptional" from Extra-Special Doilies, Leisure Arts Booklet #3588.
I got this wonderful diagram on the Yahoo group site

Urban threads pattern in all four corners with the girl in the center. These took a couple of weeks each.
I had my eyebrows threaded today. I'm trying to decide what's better, waxing or threading. I have such sensitive skin that waxing is not the way for me to go but threading hurt more than I thought it would. With threading the results are supposed to last longer and the hair regrowth is supposed to be finer.
In this picture, I use a knitting needle size US1 to make the loops at the beginning.
I started with scrap thread that was about 30 to 32 inches in length.
Making rings might be a good use for any the scrap you might have!
