Small thread sculpture

Stripped the thread on my fixed hub. Cheap hubs so not entirely unexpected but annoying still. Cog was fine and flipped it over to the other side.

Special thread? you ask. Nope.

I love the dresses! Aren't they cute?

It was screws for tonight's photography session

My Mom's colorful collection of embroidery thread.

11.12.09 67/365 I finally splurged on a serious luxury...sheets with a thread count higher than 250. Amazing. I'll never sleep on cheap sheets again.

Barbour Threads was our first explore after crossing into ireland. We only saw a small part this time but it was excellent all the same!

Curator's statement:

When I received my February/March American Craft Magazine there was a statement in reference to fiber artist Lenore Tawney talking about her "Devotion To Thread". It struck me as the perfect title for the upcoming show I was putting together for Woodland Pattern that would focus on artists working with components of "handcraft". I am pleased to bring together 15 artists from Milwaukee to New York, Alabama to California, that all work in a variety of mediums and methods, with the common "thread" of thread in their work.

My hope for this show is that the viewer will not only walks away with a new appreciation of using hand and machine embroidery, sewing, needlework, and handcraft within art, but will also feel inspired to go home and create. I am honored to be working with such a creatively diverse group of artists that are at varying degrees within their artistic careers willing to come together and celebrate their devotion to what ties them together, thread.

Limited Catalog Available:

A complimentary limited edition, hand assembled (paper, wooden spool, hand stamped) catalog (edition of 300 pieces) will be available while they last to gallery guests. The catalog will be designed and assembled by curator Faythe Levine as a way to commemorate this show and Woodland Pattern's commitment to bringing new work to Milwaukee.

The train wires have always scared me a bit. I had this image of them being arms and coming to get me as a child. But now I love them. They're peaceful and steady, and they lead me to places I've never been to, in my favorite way of transportation: the train.

Unlocking The Security Device With A Perfect Key -

Shoelace will sometimes come undone, no matter how much you fastened them. As I bend to tighten my threads, I caught a glimpse of a spider, no it was two, plaiting together. For once, I praise my shoelace for coming loose at the right time. I couldn’t stoop to their level to spy what was happening, so my camera sat on the ground and peered through the grasses. Spiders are real sensitive to movements and parted as soon as they sense a peeping-tom. I like the papal bulbs of the male, they resemble fabulous suck on lollipops. The female on the left was funny, I laughed because she had “manly eyes” tagged on her rump like tattoos.

I bought this peg board stand from gateway (like a goodwill) for $10.00. I then purchased the hooks off ebay. It is double sided. I love that is on wheels and movable. I do keep a vinyl cover when not in use to keep dust off of thread.

Most of these are pretty old and came from Birmingham's lovely Rag Market - where I sadly no longer visit but Lesley does - thank you : )

Two small, but elegant crocheted doilies. Color - cream, 6 inches in diameter.

Inside. I had these tiny scissors from Spiced Coffee- they'll have to hang out in here until I can find some folding ones.

Made with this cute tute- www.sewmamasew.com/2011/01/travel-sewing-case-tutorial/ I made it a bit bigger and with 2 elastics to hold it closed, but otherwise I followed the tute.

We are passionate about thread. Thread has become a specialized instrument for creativity and stitch express. It can play a supporting, technical role or be the star of the show. Check out the chart on page 9 of the book Threads – The Basics and Beyond.
