After picking up the two rolls of film that I'd taken six long days before, I drove out of the parking lot of the camera store and parked a few blocks away, under a willow tree. With familiar eagerness and anxiety, I opened the envelope and removed the first set of images, rushing through them with growing dread. I removed the second set of images, and disappointment officially crushed me. Due to varying degrees of blurriness, I considered every single image thoroughly unuseable, a waste of film. I wanted to cry. I fell into mourning and let myself feel it all. And then I stopped and realized that this is the first time this has happened, where I haven't gotten a single useable image, and perhaps that actually makes me quite lucky. I checked the camera and discovered that I had, in fact, neglected to attend to one of the settings, thereby screwing everything up. But, I thought, perhaps this will not only prevent me from making the same mistake again but also provide another avenue; maybe I should create something out of the negatives, perhaps this time the negatives are the point, for if the pictures were any good I never would've considered using the negatives themselves in any way. So, now I must find a use for them.
Also, in retrospect, while I remain thoroughly disappointed in the images as a whole, there are some I am less disappointed in than others...
Day Three Hundred:
It's the same with the eyes in the back of your head. If you adorn yourself in any sort of headwear you really are going to render those extra eye balls rather pointless. Although being rather spherical in shape they do lack points anyway. Spherical, that's another of those words that's wondrous to say.
And another thing about that thing up there on this thing if you need glasses where are you going to find the right sort of spectacles to be able to see. It's not as if that one has any way of holding a monocle in even though it would be pretty cool to attempt to bring the monocle back. Without those many old victorian gents wouldn't have been able to show their shock and surprise by having it drop into their drink.
So we have come to the conclusion and by we we mean eye, eye mean I have therefore postulated and pondered will wondering over the course of a wandering that the two eyes as they are have been placed in the right spot and need nothing extra. Except maybe to come in yellow because yellow eyes look so cool.
This small painting is part of a collaboration with another artist friend of mine. Sarah Brueck will be making this into a piece of jewelry.
