The low morning light was beautiful on the grass and weeds lining this gravel road north of Idaho Falls. I am becoming more and more convinced that there is beauty all around us. Finding that beauty is not so much traveling to it but opening our eyes and seeing the beauty in the common and simple things around us.

Still fiddling around with light-painted still life. Here's a collection of old wooden things!

less than 24 hours after yesterday’s snowy snap, and one monster storm later, the driveway looks… a bit different

Should I make just one more batch of mince pies? I made my own mincemeat this year. I'll never buy a made up pot ever again. It's delicious.

I'm making some mulled wine this weekend. Root ginger, allspice, cinnamon sticks, cloves, orange and lemon peel. (organic unsprayed fruit of course!) oh...and not forgetting some plonk!

I used a purchased pinhole lens cap that I bought for the same theme a few years ago.

Yes, I know... my sensor needs cleaning - you should have seen it before I cleaned things up on LIghtroom.

All the earth grows fire,

White lips of desire

Brushing cool on the forehead, croon slumbrous things.

Earth fades; and the air is thrilled with ways,

Dewy paths full of comfort. And radiant bands,

The gracious presence of friendly hands,

Help the blind one, the glad one, who stumbles and strays,

Stretching wavering hands, up, up, through the praise

Of a myriad silver trumpets, through cries,

To all glory, to all gladness, to the infinite height,

To the gracious, the unmoving, the mother eyes,

And the laughter, and the lips, of light.

Today, convection is on the increase early (11AM). This thunderhead developed quickly and was replaced with adjacent towering cumulus cells after it anviled out a few minutes later.

If you look closely, the towering cloud looks like a clown with a small hat!! I like the nose and buggy eye (in profile). Looks like it wants to speak. heh heh :-). Just discovered a monkey on the right side of the clown!

The best conversations span decades—written once, read a thousand times.

‘‘Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences than other people.’

2011 is going my my year. Me and my friends. So much stuff is going to happen. Mistakes, and good things. But it's going to be awesome. Try new things, have fun, meet new people, sweet 16, getting my license, you know. It's going to be amazing. And to start it off next weekend I'm going up to Bear Creek which is a skii resort with a bunch of guys and girls for a party. <3

Happy new year everyone! :) May your hopes and dreams come true.

An old shot here.

Mostly updated for the purpose of fulfilling my tagged duties.

So 10 things you may not have known about me:

1) I think I am officially addicted to the $1 vanilla soft serve cones from McDonald's.

2) Whenever I discover a blog I really like, I usually read through or flip through the entire thing to see how the blogger's style has evolved. This gets pretty obsessive and time-consuming.

3) I am VERY near sighted - hoping that laser surgery will be cheaper and nearly perfected in the next 10 years or so. I currently own 3 pairs of glasses and still wear contacts...haha.

4) I think my current dream job is to be a photo editor of some kind of home/interior decorating magazine, because even more than I like taking pictures, I love discovering/looking through others' works and picking out what would look nice together. And of course still take pics on the side!

5) I have over a dozen moles/beauty marks on my face. I would love to get rid of some of them.

6) It makes me feel slightly superior to take longer subway rides than the people around me (totally irrational because they could be transferring but nonetheless...)

7) I have had sushi every Monday for the past month.

8) I think sushi would be a deal-breaker food for me, romantic-relationship wise :P (that and spicy food).

9) I could probably win an award for being bad at saving money.

10) I'm leaving for school for my FINAL year in exactly 2 weeks - AAH. One of my biggest concerns about the real world is not having health insurance once I turn 23 and am no longer in school or on my parents' insurance. Ridiculous right?! :P

Oh and if you have time, check out me, Bryan, and Justin's fun last night!

The shoes that appear in my "Things Work Out" series represent our perpetual journey and how all we experience becomes part of who we are. In these pieces, I depict shoes not only because they are part of what takes us on our personal journey, but also because our shoes reveal a little bit about our individuality and the postmarks suggest different locations or travel. I started my "Things Work Out" mantra years ago with my children, it's about being positive and trusting. On Tuesday mornings, while drinking my coffee I send my husband and children a text that says "Happy 2sday!" Included in that text is one of my photos or artworks that include a 2 or the word two. Moving about in the Olympics has taught me many things. First and foremost I think, is that our lands are all readily precious and need to be guarded. I've learned that one of the simplest gifts that that we give to ourselves has little to do with anything more than being grateful.

Grateful, for what we have and for what we choose to be a part of. Grateful for family, friends and good health. Grateful for our pristine forests and miracles they supply to our soul.

I am acutely mindful of these pristine lands and only hope that future generations will allow them to prosper under their own unique plan. Sustainability may only occur with the reciprocal attitude of mankind.

This is a trust of sorts......

No white Christmas for us this year, and I think I'm okay with that. (Sorry if that last sentence was blasphemous, but I'm still not ready for snow, even though the snowy season is upon us.)

Hope you all are enjoying whatever you're celebrating and are in the great company of friends and family.

Oh, and HFF! :)
