Sunsets are not only beautiful and adorable, but they also have so much meaning. Sunsets signify endings, change, and transformation. They remind us that change is part of life and everything has an ending.
Many people resist change and hold on to what the universe is telling them to release. However, you should embrace positive change and make it part of your life. If things aren’t going as planned, maybe it’s time to re-examine your actions and consider what direction really matters to you.
The sunset tells us that the day is almost over. It reminds us of the importance of time and how we should make good use of it. It’s also a time for reflection. As your day comes to a close, ask yourself whether you’ve done everything you set out to do or been the person you desire to be.
While the sunrise brings hope for the new day, the sunset brings a sense of peace that everything is going to be alright. It serves as a promise of a bright and light-filled new daytime.
You should take every opportunity to watch a sunset. Sunset gazing may also have a number of psychological benefits. Studies show that slowing down to enjoy a sunset may boost well-being, increase prosociality and enhance life satisfaction.
I've not been to Nupend Wood for a few weeks since the bluebells had finished. I'd decided first to have a look at Common Hill reserve close-by. Common Hill is a small pasture of 2-3 acres just outside of Fownhope, Herefordshire. As I had hoped, lots of common spotted orchids were in bloom. The reserve is managed by Herefordshire nature trust as is Nupend wood, both lie along the River Wye trail. The trust lay corrugated sheet in parts of the meadows to give shelter for local reptiles and I always hope for a suprise when I lift one of these. To my delight the site at Common hill revealed a wonderful grass snake, and a slo worm. Both were close to one another and it occured to me that they must not pose a threat to one another and the grass snake dosn't consider the sloworm as a meal. Anyway that was my first grass snake and it was engaging to see his eyes focused on me and his tongue tasting the air. Wonderful.
My next visit was to Nupend wood to look for the Stinking Iris, hopfully in bloom. And yes, the Iris are blooming and I hope will be around for a few weeks. I walked up the lane to the pastures at Nupend, lots of birdboxes along the way in the surrouding woods. I wonder why there are so many types. Walking through the pastures my eyes were taken by the sight of Greater butterfly orchids in flower. I'd not expected any here and where I had hoped to find some, Joans Hill Farm, there were none, at least where I looked. Sometimes it's easy to miss things but once an eye focuses, more just pop up. Under the corrugated at Nupend were three or more slo worms. No grass snakes this time. I will post more images as time allows.

Testing the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G that has just arrived today, replacing the previously tested "D" type lens. I know. It's a silly shot. We all do some of these from time to time.
The slight axial colour aberration in hight contrast areas (easy green and purple fringing around the metallic ring) has been totally and sucessfully removed by Nikon Capture NX2 in a quick post processing run. I'm very pleased.

So last weekend was supposed to be my catch up on work weekend and that was pushed to go out and bench for half a day. I did get some work done, but not as much as if I'd stayed home. Duh! So I thought this weekend would be all weekend, work on catching up. Ended up getting out of the house for a bit, and as always, I bring a camera. Oh look, there's a train coming!!! Pull over, get my flicks. Oh, there's another one. Next thing you know I'm meeting up with a friend, and it was a couple hours before I actually made it to the place I was originally heading out TO..
Of course, then on the way back, I see a train parked, but no place to pull over, so I head up the road to wait for it to roll past me. I wait, I wait, and while I waited, another couple trains! YES!! That one train never moved over the course of 4 hours or so. Sat on the track with the top light on, but wouldn't budge. Oh well. There's always another one coming down the tracks.
Tons of stackers this time, sorry, I get what I can get when I can get it. There's still a bunch of really cool pieces in this batch. People making the best of the space that's there.
I sometimes feel like I'll go out and come back with basically nothing to show for it. I'm constantly amazed at the cool pieces I catch. A lot of times I know some of the major things I "got" but it's not until I get home and start going through the photos that I find out what I actually "got". The trains sometimes move so fast I'm not always sure. I always find five or six awesome pieces from the day that made the whole trip worthwhile.
To all of my fellow benchers, writers, railfans, etc... Stay safe out there! Watch your back. Lots of shady people out there. Be good to each other, we're all part of this.
