Or, something like that...
Since it's so close to Halloween, an old sketch, this is something that won't rot your teeth, maybe your brain, but, anyway...
There is nothing romantic about mental illness, except to the extent that the healthy can liberate those who are imprisoned by it.

According to the Stanley Hotel website, Estes Valley was once a wild, lonely parkland known only to wandering tribes of Ute and Arapaho. When the Earl of Dunraven visited in 1872, he coveted this “sportsman’s paradise” of rushing streams and peaceful meadows teeming with fish and game. He sought to keep the valley to himself as a private hunting preserve, but as more and more American settlers were drawn by its natural beauty, he realized that this dream could never be a reality.
The story of the Stanley Hotel itself began in 1903 when Yankee inventor Freelan Oscar Stanley arrived in the valley, weak and underweight from the symptoms of consumption. To his amazement, just one season here was enough to restore his health to better than before! Overjoyed, he vowed to return each summer for the rest of his life.
However, he and his wife Flora were used to the sophistication of East Coast society, and the little community of Estes Park offered little to stimulate and challenge this multi-talented genius. Together, they resolved to build a beautiful grand hotel – and when the Stanley Hotel opened in 1909, the first guests who pulled up in stylish Stanley-designed steam cars were astonished at what they saw. Here in this mountain wilderness, surrounded by the rustic haunts of the hunter and homesteader, was an edifice that withstood comparison to the posh hotels “back east.” Electric lights, telephones, en suite bathrooms, a staff of uniformed servants and a fleet of automobiles were at their disposal. Naturally, Stanley had also done much to develop the burgeoning town. By 1917, it was an official municipality with water-works, a power plant and civic organizations that were all, in some way, thanks to Stanley.
By the 1970s the hotel’s splendor had faded due to lack of care and investment. It might have eventually have succumbed to the wrecking ball, if not for a fortuitous visit by author Stephen King. A stay of one night was enough to inspire his third major work and first hardcover bestseller The Shining, which remains a landmark masterpiece in a long and well-known list of novels.
The hotel stands today as a beautifully restored testament to its glory days, when it served as a holiday retreat for wealthy urbanites. A range of tours highlights the history of this magnificent historical structure while a tempting menu of amenities, culinary experiences and lavish spa treatments provides all the comfort and glamour required by even the most discerning modern visitors.
En honor a uno de los más grandes, a un genio, un ideal. Grande, Kubrick!

Nikon F65. An Ilford film, but can't remember if it was Pan F Plus 50, FP4 Plus 125, or Delta 100 as it was quite a few years ago when I was there. I know it was definitely one of these as at this time I was only shooting Ilford films for B&W.

It is Paprihaven's annual 13 Daze of Halloween countdown! This year, will the fearless Blue Ranger, Akiko, remain fearless when she finds herself in the most famous, frightening, fantastically foreboding films of horror?

Bandai SHFiguarts - Akiba Ranger
Craftone - Jack Torrance
While we knew we would need to scale-merge the 1:6 Jack figure with the 1:12 Akiko, additional factors caused this shot to be more challenging than expected. Of course we wanted the scene with Jack smashing through the bathroom door as that is the most iconic.
First we were surprised that the sequence in the film never pulled back to show the full door, which we wanted in our shot.
The reason we wanted a full shot was to feature the Akiko figure. The iconic shot from the film with Wendy only has her head and upper body in frame as she's slumped against the wall, and that image is completely sold by Shelley Duvall's gaunt, terrified face. Akiko has an impassive mask, so it wouldn't have been as effective to recreate that angle.
The door was the next. Without a full door shot from the film we edited what was available.

So I finally watched Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" based on the novel by Stephen King last night for the first time, and this shot just reminded me of that movie! This is Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, and we were there a few months ago for my birthday.
I took my original HDR and tried to make it a bit more spooky!
Thanks for stopping by my friends, and enjoy your Sunday!

She did so well in the movie, "The Shining", when I did Jack years ago I didn't appreciate her as I do now.
So, even though I have (literally) not drawn a thing in many years, I was compelled to at least 'try'.
This was a mistake in the making... :)
This is a HYBRID drawing/painting!
Done in black and white colored pencils, then I photographed it to make it digital, (no scanner) and it looked so bad that it took me 3 times as long to get it 'better' in Photoshop.
EDIT
I just learned that you can use alcohol to make it look smoother, sure enough, after 5 drinks, it did look more smooth!
Really, using alcohol does really make it blend better, had I known I might have been able to make this look better with Photoshop.
I have not drawn a thing in at least 15-20 years, I don't know the last time, really. I didn't know where my 'stuff' was either, I couldn't find my good paper. So, I opted to use Watercolor Cold-press for that, It was a huge mistake, I thought that I could work through it and fix it later, but, it was not so easy.
(See the robe and the horrendous horizontal textures)
This is the result of a bad decision and having to BLUR and SMUDGE out a LOT of the grainy textures of that CANVAS paper.
I learned a lesson, I thought I was smart enough, but it's not so! :)
I'd have been better off to just start over rather than taking the many, many hours I took trying to make it look halfway decent.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I am finally feeling my creativity coming back to me. I have been kicking the can on this image, as it were, for a week or so now. I am doing a lot of physical labour (making repairs and upgrades on my home) during my vacation. It is good for the soul, the mind, and the body; it is also providing me time to reflect on why I do photography. There is a clarity occurring that was lacking as the month of June came to an end. My inspiration for this image comes from Jack Nicholson in The Shining; although I put my own spin on things. I am putting this into five groups:
ODC - creepy
TOTW - in the movies
Teleidoscope - week 28 Tales
Sliders Sunday - HSS because SOOC is so yesterday.
Creative Self Portraits - because I am the scariest looking sod I know ;-)
