Halloween pictures are coming!

Get ready for our 7th installment of Halloween pictures! For the past 7 years we have taken 31 spooky pictures for 31 days of October. So prepare yourselves for some spooky fun and happy haunting!

Original photo (hallway) taken at

Maison Dupuy in the French Quarter.

I had the idea of using these parts earlier this month, and I thought what better time to post him than October?

So this is my third custom using PS, the first two being Professor X and X-23 (Check my Logan post). I didn’t want to paint on this figure because I only have one of these hairpieces (which I need for Doc Brown) and ditto for the Indy Jacket. For a new endeavor, I think it turned out pretty good!

Just mucking about with PS on a lazy Sunday afternoon. This was a corridor in PIC guam which reminded me of the Outlook Hotel. Eldest child has been comped in as token twin ghost girls. She wouldn't appreciate me meddling with one of her class graduation photos but luckily she doesn't find my flickr photostream enthralling enough to notice.

No sign of Jack Nicholson with his axe......But as we pulled into this location it would have been an excellent place to film the remake of the 1980 film The Shining !! No signs showing "Overlook Hotel" or room 237 either.

It was closed for the winter and high up in the mountain pass on the way back to Reykjavik off road No 1. Recent snow with no footprints.

Friday morning 17 July 2020

I feel like this one demands some context as it has the potential to be a little disturbing.

I shot it during Japan Day this year and these two literally appeared before me out of a crowd and out of the blue. The guy was her boyfriend and he thought it'd be funny to grab her from behind and make a "Jack Torrance face" right out of "The Shining". Of course, she wasn't thrilled to be grabbed like that in public, but it wasn't a big deal to her either. I have another frame in which she pleadingly looks into my camera and he's still making that face, but "the grab" isn't really obvious in it as I had composed the shot just a tad bit too high. Anyway, I thought this was the winner as it tells the story much better. Have a fabulous Sunday, everybody!

Heavy Seas Brewing's Red Sky at Night Saison, served on draught (with a scoop of hummus on the side), at...

🍺 Review:

Heavy Seas is a thirty-year-old 'craft' brewery, founded in 1995 (née Clipper City Brewing) in Baltimore County, Maryland, USA. The Red Sky at Night appears to be a limited re-release for the brewery's anniversary.

☞ The brewery's description of the beer (from 2010, when the beer was a spring seasonal release):

"Brewed in the style of Belgian farmhouse ales – using a unique Belgian yeast and authentic Belgian candi sugar. It is a potent and spicy ale with deep complexity. Pairs well with Thai cuisine and mussels.

ABV: 7.5% [alcohol by volume]

IBUs: 17.5 [bittering units]

Hops: French Strisselspalt

Malts: Pale, 2-Row, Wheat Malt"

☞ My impression (now, in 2025):

The beer poured with a pleasantly hazy appearance, typical of the saison style. In flavor, there were hints of spice (such as anise), notes of candi sugar fusel alcohols. and a 'red delicious' apple character. Tasty!

☞ The pub mistakenly, but humorously, referred to the beer as Red Rum Sky at Night, mixing a cinematic horror allusion with a nautical aphorism (quoted above). To be fair, so did the beer-review app, Untappd.

🍺 About Saison

(pronounced: "say ZAHWN/i>")

"Beers in this category are gold to light amber in color. Often bottle-conditioned, with some yeast character and high carbonation. Belgian-style saison may have Brettanomyces or lactic character, and fruity, horsey, goaty, and/or leather-like aromas and flavors. Specialty ingredients, including spices, may contribute a unique and signature character. Commonly called 'farmhouse ales' and originating as summertime beers in Belgium, these are not just warm-weather treats. U.S. craft brewers brew them year-round and have taken to adding a variety of additional ingredients."

Ever since seeing the movie The Shining, I can't look at an empty hotel hallway the same way. Happy Halloween.

Hey, everyone!

Today's post is inspired by Stephen King's character Rose O'Hara, aka "Rose the Hat" leader of the True Knot gang. Although I'm team Danny Torrance all the way in Doctor Sleep, I was overwhelmed by Rebecca Ferguson's beauty playing Rose. Her boho demonic style is just amazing, right?!

Hope you like it! Xo! <3

That's our eldest in a long hotel corridor. As you can see I played around with the editing to create this retro look.

WAH are visiting 1980s films

I really wanted to play today but yet again have run out of time for anything.

not even done a FDT shot

hopefully things will calm down soon and I can come and play properly again

Nikon F65. This is an Ilford film (the only B&W films I took on this trip were Ilford), but I can't remember if it was a Pan F Plus 50, Delta 100, or FP4 Plus 125. Don't have the energy to look through a whole bunch of negatives to be sure.

I wish Stephen King would make a book/movie on dollies that roam the dark corridors.

This exhibit at Somerset House's "Daydreaming with Stanley Kubrick" is inspired by the final scene of The Shining. Stanley Kubrick is encased with a freezer instead of the protagonist Jack Torrance (played by Jack Nicolson).

Timberline Lodge is a mountain lodge on the south side of Mount Hood in Clackamas County, Oregon. Constructed from 1936 to 1938 by the Works Progress Administration, it was built and furnished by local artisans during the Great Depression. Timberline Lodge was dedicated September 28, 1937, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. It is notable in film for serving as the exterior of the Overlook Hotel in The Shining.
