While working through the art concepts with the AI Furry Generator, I had initially the idea of Lucia with a pony tail, or some sort of braid in the back. Later, I decided I didn't like the somewhat bald look in the front, so added bangs to the equation. You would think that would be a simple thing, but the AI seemed to fight with this new information, and I could swear there was one image generated where the Lucia with bangs was flipping off the 'old Lucia' with just the pony tail and bald looking forehead. I thought, well, that's interesting. I never thought of it as replacing one character in favor of another, or one actor that played a particular character and substituted another. But, then again, I never thought AI had feelings. I'm still not convinced, even though there seems some sort of rivalry between old Lucia and new Lucia, so I decided to go with it - there are two Lucias.

The theme song relates to me in that way, that, to the two Lucias, they see each other like a reflection in the mirror, and, in a sense, they are one and the same person. But how did this happen? They weren't born as twins. Even they are confused about how it came to be. Long story short, while taking a portal somewhere, there was some weird freak accident. Some believe that Lucia's materials split, like an atom being smashed, and this created a copy of Lucia. Others suggest that somehow, from the nature of being in motion while opening the portal for an emergency exit, the portal may have also lassoed an alternative existence of Lucia from a parallel world. The parallel world theory currently wins out since it best explains why they see differently similar parallel experiences, as well as make different choices. Thus they are the same, but not quite. I have some ideas how this will play out in the Space Adventure series, so that will be a fun concept to work with and 'flesh out', so to speak. =~,^=

Seeking answers to that nagging question, “How were these enormous canyons formed?”, I have at last found evidence to support my long-held hypothesis! Judging by the teeth marks, it is quite obvious that colossal groundhogs chewed their way through solid rock, creating the deep canyons found around the Southwest.

This opinion will likely be lambasted by the scientific community as yet another kooky theory voiced by an amateur knucklehead scientist, but, I ask you, what other conclusion is possible?!

My next step is to search for the culprit, Marmota monaximus.

Black swans are only indigenous to a few parts of Australia and New Zealand, but have been shipped to zoos around the world and have occasionally escaped and bred in the wild. We have a small colony of these swans in Lakeland, Florida on Lake Morton which is home to an astounding array of avian species of all sorts. I'm just back from an early morning visit.

Apparently there is, in science and philosophy, a concept called "Black Swan Theory". It goes like this.

"The black swan theory or theory of black swan events is a metaphor that describes an event that comes as a surprise, has a major effect, and is often inappropriately rationalized after the fact with the benefit of hindsight. (I know ..... sounds like a recent political event.!) The term is based on an ancient saying which presumed black swans did not exist, but the saying was rewritten after black swans were discovered in the wild."

If you are curious about how this image relates to string theory, watch the "Five Flavours of String Theory" (Hour 2, chapter 8) and "Getting To One Theory" (Hour 3, chapter 3) at The Elegant Universe homepage. Available in quicktime and realvideo. The whole Elegant Universe movie is 3 hours (all of it available on the site) and is highly recommended if you're an interested layman.

(If you're in a hurry you can watch only "Getting to One Theory" and skip to 1/3 into the clip)

Pals,

Generally, I tend to argue that Explore is a lottery:

It's nice to win, but it says nothing beyond you had some luck.

Currently, I want to step further and propose a conspiracy theory:

When you post a good photo, you get many views, most of them from people that don't feel obliged to you in any way; they enjoy the photo, but do not bother to fav, needless to say: comment on it.

Result: You get many views, but a low percent of favs and comment.

When you post a 'not so good' photo, most of the people that would view it would be your friends. They, on the other hand, feel obliged to you. They would comment and fav even if the photo is not that great.

Result: You don't get so many views, but high percent of favs and comments.

Bottom line: The Explore algorithm would prefer your less interesting photo, over your better one.

You are invited to look at my two previous posts: one of them was on Explore, and the other was not; and decide for yourself about my devil's theory…

:-)

The Gaia Theory Project

The Gaia Theory Project is a group project presented by the Tanalois Group and the torno Kohime Foundation under the direction of Aloisio Congrejo, Tani Thor and Nino Vichan. It is based on the Gaia Theory of Lovelock and Margulis.

The GAIA Theory Project brings together 11 artists from 7 countries spanning Asia, Europe and North America.

This project is sponsored by a 5 month grant from the Linden Endowment for the Arts.

The sim will be available for public visitations through the month of December 2013.

The Gaia hypothesis, also known as Gaia theory or Gaia principle, proposes that organisms interact with their inorganic surroundings on Earth to form a self-regulating, complex system that contributes to maintaining the conditions for life on the planet. Topics of interest include how the biosphere and the evolution of life forms affect the stability of global temperature, ocean salinity, oxygen in the atmosphere and other environmental variables that affect the habitability of Earth.

The hypothesis was formulated by the scientist James Lovelock and co-developed by the microbiologist Lynn Margulis in the 1970s
