Rain all day and then a last, late assault of bright sun, marvellous

A gloriously sunny and calm day in Ellesmere

2018 blossoms on the crabapple tree.

a cold day in my nearest town diss...this is looking out across the lake called the mere which is in the centre of the town...apologies to all for not being around flickr much over the last couple of weeks...been having a busy time with work and other projects but i'll be back commenting on all your lovely works properly soon...promise...

Another photo from the time just before the sun broke through the mist.

The Mere, Scarborough

Squirrel with his nut in the tree

The same Mere but at sunset on a different day. Lots of purples and pinks.

It all happened in the last few minutes today as far as the sky goes

Lovely light down by The Mere this morning

That's what the sky seemed to say to me anyway

Have to call it an encounter because I was sitting on a fishing platform over the Mere and this little Moorhen was not a bit bothered by me or Poopy (dog). Walked all around me and kept popping in the water either side. I had a long lens with TC so much of the time it was too close for focus. I love how their eyes match their beak.

Looking over The Mere on a calm evening.

I took this photograph at The Mere, Nr Newport, Shropshire. The adult seemed to be trying to show the chick how to catch fish. The chick dived numerous times without success and was attempting to take fish off her mother but she was not prepared to share. I watched for quite some time and eventually it came up with this stickleback. I think this was it's first catch as I had observed its behaviour for at least three to four hours.

The Mandarin Duck ranks as an extraordinarily beautiful, not to mention colorful, variety of duck. They bear a close relationship to the wood duck of North America. This unique animal now lists as Threatened in its endemic range. The primary reason for this remains habitat loss, due to the destruction of native forests. However, and in this instance thankfully, mankind introduced to many other portions of the world. The Mandarin Duck constitutes a species of perching duck. They spend the majority of their time during the day perching (hence the term) in trees or on the ground. Several variations also developed through captive breeding practices.

The Mandarin Duck is a native of north-east Asia and Japan, introduced to British collections at the beginning of the 20th century. The birds were first brought here for people to admire the plumage of the gaudy male, especially the golden-orange ‘sails’ sticking up from his back, although it is the purple-green crested head that gives the species its appearance.

Don't think this swan is a fan of me somehow.

Interesting light and cloud cover gives the photograph a strange half monochrome feel

Chinese geese are considered by many to be the most graceful and beautiful member of the goose family. They are elegant and dignified on both land and water. Sometimes referred to as "Swan Geese" because of their long and graceful necks, they, in fact, descend from the wild swan goose native to Asia

Well, I am headed up North on a short vacation so I had to take a quick shot for this week's theme. This is for the Red theme at 52 of 2014 and it is the brake light on my car. I'm going low tech so I'll see you next week, folks. Have a good one!

All about the equilibrium

More lovely weather today with a little bit of cloud turning up to make the sky interesting just before sunset.

I had a few minutes spare on this foggy morning so ventured out with the camera just before the sun broke through here in Ellesmere.
