Baby Brian is being a highly uncooperative specimen!
For Macro Mondays theme 'Gift'. The gift here is not the snail, but my precious microscope. It was given to me by my grandparents when I was a young child - they had had a veterinary student lodger renting a small flat above their garage who suddenly vacated the flat when the rent was due, leaving behind a number of possessions that presumably were too difficult to carry easily. One of things left behind was this microscope, clearly a quality and valuable instrument so it is curious that it would be left behind. Recognising my interest in the natural sciences, my grandparents gave me his microscope, that came with slides and eyepieces - it was a excellent source of discovery that lasted all through my school days until I went off to university. I still have the microscope, but it doesn't get taken out of its case very often any more - although I did have fun photographing it for a photography course, see the first comment box. The 4X is the magnification power of one of the objective lenses, it is 1.8cm in diameter.
No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.
One of my favorite photos I've ever made. I frequently photographed the bees writhing amongst the stamens fallen in clumps on the petals of my Southern Magnolia's flowers. This little feller actually fell off the petal while clutching an armful of stamens as he fell, but of course quickly righted himself and flew back onto the petal. Just an awesome capture for me.
I love beachs with a strong personality, they are great. I also love beachs that are deserted in summer, It's like having the world at your feet...
Today picture wouldn't have been possible without my faithful assistant, thank you always.
The song that accompanies the image is from Portuguese interpreter, Dulce Pontes. A wonderful singer with a magnificent voice.
Maybe from a speckled hen. 🤔
But to make it more interesting, it's cracked and also lit from the INSIDE, not back lit, so I guess it was from a battery hen!!!
For Macro Mondays theme 'speckled'.

The theme for Macro Mondays is dice so I combined it with my week of black. Sometimes it isn't enjoyable how long it takes to assemble an image, while other times it is relatively easy. Black is challenging in many ways - reflection, dust, exposure, etc. There is always room to grow and learn, today was one of those days.
This is a Japanese salt shaker, that's part of a set. I tried a 50-shot focus bracketing for this macro, which probably caused the background blur across the upper portion. Actual size is about 5 inches.
