CC, Week 49, In The Style Of...

Doesn't feel like too much longer and will be able to swap squirrels for stags, bitterns, lambs and fell ponies for my Sunday photographers. In the meantime... a squirrel.. again.

Weekly Theme Challenge... PAPER

For Doll A Day

Miyu served in US army few years ago and was in Iraq. So many things had happened those days.

Shot with my SX 70 loaded with Polaroid Monochrome 600 film using an ND Filter.

I met Jordan (maybe Jordyn) today and she is amazing. I was drawn to her aura and beautiful hair, but after talking to her, I walked away feeling hopeful & seen. Super grateful for each person I meet who shows me there is still goodness in the world. I took 2 pics, one to give and one to keep, and we were both happy with the blur (despite me being a perfectionist); it feels like it's part of the story.

My awesome friend Andrea (www.flickr.com/photos/girlhula/) and I did a mini-photo project together to seek beauty in the world and to create. We gave each other themes, and my 2 were 1. Curves & 2. Shadows. Here is my interpretation.

Well I'm going through the store to see what can be recycled, re photographed, re packed and I came across my Theme Racer builds.

A standard was designed around Legohaulics' steering system which can be coloured accordingly and propped to suit the individual racer. Much fun...

I didn't like my A-frame's look and articulation very much so I made the smallest possible exosuit which could wield good articulation while having good proportions.

Thank you to everyone who pauses long enough to look at my photo. Any comments or Faves are very much appreciated.

So for this theme we had to choose an Olympic event, and re-create it with our models! at first i wanted to go with either swimming or gymnastics, but then i decided to go with a sport that doesnt really get much coverage in the olympics, i thought about rythmic gymnastics, but in the end went with boxing because i didnt even know it was an olympic event before looking it up! Katsumi is representing her home country Japan in this photo, and i hope you like it!

Still rearranging workspace in the basement and all are still sealed with some shelf wear. NFS

Buildings by water seems to be a pervasive theme wherever I go and whatever I shoot ;)

The first memorial is this one from 1891. The plaque in front covered in snow is for the 1956 explosion. out of sight here to the left is the memorial for the 1958 "Bump". the four up right plaques have the names of all the men and boys killed not on the 3 disasters. Springhill lost over 400 in these mines.

On a school trip the class was asked what was the worst disaster, a boy pointed to a name, the only man killed that day, my Dad he said.

My Dad was killed in the 1958 bump, it was not till later in life I can see why I never fished, cant fix a car etc.

Dad went to help in the 1956 explosion as a rescue worker. We have his letter from the unemployment office stopping his benefits as he was working on these days.

Mum used to tell me to imagine living in a town where a hundred men have just died. There was no work and many surviving men hung around and just drank. Dads truck was stolen and found being drove around town by drunks. Men would break into the house looking for booze, one guy was happy with the vanilla.

Now this monument is about all thats left of these memories.

Mum was a war bride from England and a few years after the bump she took us back to England, "no boy of mine is going down a pit". She signed over the house deeds for payments that never came. Our house was for sale at the time of the disaster as they were planning on buying a farm. Life is full of what ifs eh?

Here is the "camera-version" of the iPhone shot yesterday. Suddenly i had only the 70-200 with me. So the viewpoint is a different.

I was going for an "artsy" picture.

New Christmas Livery Virgin train No. 91128 (Claus 91) is seen heading past Spittal at Berwick-Upon-Tweed

Working the 1S10 King's Cross - Edinburgh Waverly service.

The new livery came about when Virgin ran a nationwide competition in which school children got the chance to design a Christmas theme livery Train.

Virgin trains had such a huge response and two winners were picked Madeleine Deakin aged 11. with her Christmas theme train called Claus 91 which runs on the East Coast Main Line .

The other is Pendolino Train which is called Penguilino and was designed by Amber Maxfield aged 9 and runs on the West Coast Main Line.
