The Avenue 51 Print is so named because it is made from a photograph I took of shadows on Avenue 51.
Old carpet samples and production waste get a second life with AW’s design contest. While sorting and recycling will always be important environmental measures in the carpet and floor covering industry, upcycling pushes the envelope that bit further. By upgrading waste into new, desirable products, AW takes an ecological stand while feeding its creative hunger. The contest challenges Belgian design, fashion and textile students to create a product, garment, furniture or accessory with carpet scraps. The finest design wins a cash prize. From March 29th to May 13th the winning designs from 2011 and 2012 are being exhibited at TIO3 in Ronse.
More scenes from the Quilt Barn at the 2009 Kutztown Folk Festival in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, USA, seen on July 3, 2009, the day before the quilt auction. If you've never had a chance to see 2,500 quilts in one room, I hope you will; it's wondrous! Unfortunately, we heard from a friend who runs a shop in Paradise that sales were really down this year. Please support folk art, if you can. The central quilt has a similar design to the one I bought in May. I don't know if log cabin star is the proper name for it, but I love the combination of the two designs!
