This shows a close up of the page after the first test. Note the running of the ball points and the uniball. Note the fading of the G2. Note the solidity of the Gelly Roll and the Noodler's.
This is a test of the actual webcams I want to use. I 3D-printed a holder and connected them up to a netbook. The netbook won't provide enough processing power for the real thing, but it is good enough to record so that I can evaluate the performance on a real computer.
I'm evaluating the cameras based on exposure time (my first try managed 1 fps indoors), field of view, focus (sharp corners are necessary to detect features) and jello. Yes, jello, otherwise known as how the picture becomes distorted due to motion and vibration.
I worry about this year's course - It will be at the reservoir and I'll have to align the cameras so they see either the background (kinda sparse - no big building to look at) or the cones (all look identical - could be confusing) and not the people (I expect many more people to be visible - they are not reliable waypoints!!)

Test shot of my bench with Ilford's new 4x5 direct positive glossy FB paper. I followed Ilford's suggestion of rating the paper at ISO 3. I only got one shot as I lost the light between shooting the single test shot and developing. I still need more work as this is too much exposure - with direct positive, you have to reduce time to darken as you start at black (it's weird and is going to take some getting used to). I made no corrections!
Speed Graphic, 203mm Kodak Ektar Flash Supermatic f/7.7 lens, ? seconds @ F16, focus around 14'. Developed in old Dektol for 1:30.
Here is a sample image I took using a Canon A640. If you look at "original" size on this, Dan's hair is quite sharp. Compare this against the photo I took of Dan and Emily using the new 40D and you'll see just how soft the 17-55 IS USM image is.
I messed with the contrast very slightly, and bumped the saturation. But NO image sharpening was applied.
At this point, the A640 images are so much sharper than my 40D images that the 17-55 EF-S is headed back to the store to be replaced. Maybe they'll have a better sample of the 17-55? If not, I'll have to see if they have a 17-40 f/4 L or 16-35 f/2.8 L in stock.

So this a driving timelaspe I made while testing my recently purchased camera mount that I bought at a photo expo. The mount is called the Fat Gecko from Delkin. It's a mount that uses suction to attach to smooth surfaces. So I wanted to see how well it would handle during normal driving conditions. So this is the result of the test.
I took this timelapse during my drive to pick up family dinner. In the middle of the movie you will see my arms / steering wheel go crazy because I couldn't get into the parking spot so I have to maneuver multiple times to get into the spot (San Diego has some of the smallest parking spots, grrr)
Testing out a Roll of Adox Colour Implosion film shot at 100 ASA using a Nikon F3HP camera, Nikkor Ai 50mm f/1.4 lens, and SB-16 Flash.
The film (and prints) look this bad on purpose, when shot at 100 ASA, the film has a definite blue cast, shot at 400 ASA, a Red cast. When I picked the film up from the lab, they thought I'd been shooting 30 year old film, rather than new film.

This is first run of Revolver. The piece is about 20x10 roughly and painted on the backside of an old piece of bead board. It was all that was to hand. The stencil did not survive the test run. It’s got a lot of small parts that did not hold up too well. The stencil needs to be cut from a stiffer material. I’m looking into some options, but may end up trying thin cardboard or poster board. Also the design need some work, as I had to use pins to keep the flutes in the cylinder held down and still ended up with a shit load of bleed though. But I do like the image in general. By the way for those interested, the model for this piece is me with my new Smith & Wesson 686 sold to me by the good folks at www.revolverarmorer.com.
