Yamabushi rake the pyre to spread the burning branches and to prepare the path for fire crossing.
Onlookers hold towels to cover their eyes from smoke to shield their face from the heat.
I took at couple steps back as I found it too hot standing near the barricade.
For an explanation of the festival, see the description in the set. Photos in the set are arranged chronologically to aid in understanding the event. Unfortunately, I've written the photo descriptions with the assumption that the set description was read first. That is likely not the case.
Last year it seemed like everyone and their mom's was trying out for Adventure Time (my favorite cartoon) and I was no exception. Obviously, I didn't make the cut but I thought I'd post my boards. If you look at this one in the slideshow view it's more fun to cycle through.

"Dirty Harry" Contaminates St. George, Utah
On May 19, 1953, a 32-kiloton nuclear test, later dubbed "Dirty Harry," was fired at the Nevada Test Site. The fallout progressed between Alamo and Glendale, Nevada, as predicted. Roadblocks were in place along highways and inhabitants had been moved temporarily away from the fallout path. Surface winds from northern Arizona blew the airborne debris further north than expected. When radiation levels in St. George started to rise higher than anticipated, the sheriff was notified and advised to order the 4,500 residents to stay indoors for two hours. The radiation monitors stationed there helped direct the residents indoors

One of the smaller-massive testing facilities at NASA Goddard in Greenbelt, MD.
When acoustics testing occurs, the entire area needs to be evacuated otherwise people will be injured, despite the 2' thick doors. Apparently this room can simulate the decibel level of lift-off.
Taken on the NASA Goddard #tourntweet.

There were two guys testing the water at Audubon Park. They told me they do this periodically. I wonder what were the results.

August testing can be so tough! Summer vacations. Back to school time. There are a lot of distractions! So proud of all of our students who prepared and did their best at the August Belt Testing!
In Washington, DC a few days. Taking the opportunity to view a photography exhibit and to test a new camera.
we were in vegas for one of aaron's best friends wedding. Noel (the groom) didn't ask me to be the photographer for the wedding but instead asked if i could set up a little area at the restaurant to do some ab + bk style photobooth pictures of all the guest. Since we were at Caesar's Palace (can't recall the name of the restaurant) the background looks a little more 1997 prom than we would normally want. but the photos still turned out great. I would highly suggest everyone do this at their weddings. It's much more fun than looking at the guest sitting down and eating
