- Tidemill of the Breyner - Tidemill and factory ruins at Seixal. Portugal
Seixal has ruins of many tidal mills - from diferent ages and since early- to witness the important and productive milling industry concentrated in the region.
The Mill Breyner, more properly The mill was connected to the rest of Breyner manufactures and consisted of two plants overlap, both units were served by water from the same tank and had eight mills, each producing on average some 300 kg / day, which made this mill one of the most important region in terms of productivity.
In the second half of the nineteenth century, this mill was adapted for a pasta factory in the firm Michaels & Sons, who in 1895 entered the era of steam. It was installed there a classic wheel, driven by a system of belts and drums that drive the mechanism by rotation, taking advantage of both tidal current, which exponentially increased production. You could work at that time about forty souls.
In the thirties of the twentieth century, was installed in the same place the company Mermaid - Organic Fertilizer Factory Ltd., producing flour, fish oils and organic fertilizers from the waste from the fish factories and remained in operation until 1976.
It was hotly contested by local people due to the intense unpleasant odors due to fertilizers produced there.

A broken heart and a cast
A couple that lived the blast
Defined by those three terms
So mean
To get it easy
& run fast
My dream has lived the nightmare
It took my eyes and gaze to stare
Do you think that’s even fair?
So lame
To hurt me
Yet, you dare
Standing alone behind the fence
I couldn’t even stand a chance
That’s my miserable stance
So lost
Being the ghost

Henry is a little tense on his newly requisitioned favourite blanket. Not surprising as he only arrived in his new forever home just 2 days beforehand.
Henry is a previously abandoned 'rescue cat' pure white kitty who has had a very difficult start to his life with a very long story behind his circumstances. Henry was rescued, rehomed and adopted into the Axe household on December 27th 2024.
Henry is now completely safe in his new forever home and he doesn't need to worry about a thing anymore.
Henry was born circa 2022.
Congenital sensorineural deafness in white cats is very common however and thankfully Henry's hearing is perfect. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congenital_sensorineural_deafness_i...

The family that lived here was deported back to Germany in October 2003, leaving everything behind. It's clear to see that they meant to return, but eighteen years later, nothing has moved an inch. There are children's drawings on the fridge, and contents inside it. There's are books on the shelves, videos beside them, toys and ordinary mementos. Paperwork, legal documents. personal information, business records. Car in the garage, van in the carport. Clothes in the closets, sheets on the beds. Every appliance, object, tool or utensil that made up everyday life remains. These rooms are a perfect time capsule of 2003, with not a single hint that time has passed. It's a disconcerting visit to make, because I remember that year eerily well. This desk could be a portrait of my own memories without much imagination, the way it was when I was sixteen. That old CRT monitor, speakers, joystick, and camcorder. All obsolete, like most modern things left for two decades. There's an acidic scent in the air, mold and rot setting in, a couple new leaks in the roof. The skin is peeling back on a perfect past, tense as the time we've lost.

Wow...we finally had a beautiful partly cloudy day here, yesterday...and it was time for me to step out of the Way Back Machine temporarily and get some 2019 hiking in! It really did me a world of good!
I was so glad to encounter this Red-breasted Nuthatch yesterday...this is only the second shot I've gotten of one! While Brown-headed Nuthatches are numerous here, I seldom find Red-breasted Nuthatches!
