I was walking behind these visitors to Barcelona. Several times I bumped (deliberately) into the gentleman to see if he would grab his camera, or at least check who was so close to him..... here he was walking in an open space, but there were crowded places, like waiting at the pedestrian crosswalk, etc. he was not holding on to the camera strap, just had the camera slung on his shoulder.

I do a lot of traveling- a word of advice: carrying an expensive camera like this is tempting fate- or being just plain careless or stupid- in any city, in any country.

Notice the woman. She is carrying her bag across the shoulder---- much safer and harder to grab.
